There are a number
of British
shows I enjoy, like “Escape to the Country “ and
“British
Gardens”. The UK enjoys a temperate climate even though
if moved
directly west it would fit into Hudson Bay nicely. The
reason for the
milder climate is, of course, the Gulf Stream. Out of
curiosity I
asked google what would happen if the Gulf warm water
tracked west of
where it is now. I didn’t know this is a fear of climate
scientists. The average temperature of northern Europe
would fall by
5 to 15 degrees. Scotland and Norway would experience
ice age
conditions. Global food production would fall. While the
northern
hemisphere would cool drastically the southern would
warm causing ice
melting. Places like the Amazon and India would
experience drought
causing greenhouse gases captured by the Amazon
rainforest to enter
the atmosphere. Ocean levels along the north America
coast would rise
affecting some major cities. Is this what they mean by
“doom
scrolling” or is that a term only applied to political
items? Since
the Earth is never static, even if it seems so to us
with a
relatively minuscule lifetime comparatively speaking,
eventually the
Gulf stream will move but so will the continents and
hopefully life
on earth will be able to adjust. The fear is that global
warming will
cause drastic changes without nature given time to
adjust. And now
you all know that strange thoughts go through my mind
when I wake up
in the middle of the night and can’t fall back to sleep.
Do any of
you find yourself doing strange google searches just
because you can?

It's so good to see
the end of
March and hopefully April will treat us better weather
wise. Our
greenhouse had stood up to high winds and heavy snow
many times and
we are so happy it has held well with the bubble wrap
roof. We have
many seedlings started and growing well. We also have
been
collecting sap and doing many boil downs as we call it.
We also
found out there are fire restrictions in place so we
can't have a
fire until 2pm. That makes things harder as it takes a
long time to
boil down in our 6 foot tray. Sometimes we were doing 2
boils a day
but not now with the restrictions. We have to obey or
it's a huge fine. With so much snow around it seemed
safe to boil.

Hi fellow
Squamidians. Our
weather has been up and down like a yo-yo. Thursday +10
and drizzle.
Today-18 and sunny with a cold strong north wind. Most
the snow is
gone. The path through the bush to the millennium trail
is still
covered in snow and ice. The garlic 🧄 I planted last
fall is up. I
put more straw on it so hopefully it will be ok. There
is a golf
course down the trail a bit. I walked around a bit of
the perimeter
and found 24 golf balls. Max can go golfing in the
spring. Nothing
else happening, a good thing, so take care and stay safe

We, that being my
musical
accomplice Jane, and I, have another song for everyone’s
enjoyment
should you choose to listen. This one is a very old folk
song that
Peter, Paul, and Mary were doing when we were all so
incredibly
young. Its a song that Sus of Nova Scotia fame can sing
along to. In
fact, Sus and I have probably sang this song together
many times over
the decades. Its a ‘protest’ song, lamenting about the
state of
the world. I guess nothing has changed or changes. So,
here is our
version of ‘If I Were Free’.
If
I
Were Free
