Kenny reports:
(Kenny
Sellers is our son and law)
Our one chicken
was acting
like she was going to die - laboured breathing -
swollen abdomen.
Acting weird. So we brought her in the house a couple
days ago,
warm bath medicine etc…. Checked for a stuck egg…
couldn’t feel
anything. She stayed in a crate in the bathroom, then
eventually to
the garage. Still swollen up yesterday etc. I was
outside walking
with her and she was still eating but walking funny
breathing funny
looking like she was going to explode. Put her back in
the coup
last night and was going to give her a warm bath again
today…..

Well she’s fine
now - not
swollen and red looking like she was going to
explode!!!

Our weather has
been stormy at
times but one day this past week was a perfect day to
hang our
buckets. The sun was shining and the wind wasn't blowing
so we put
on our snowshoes and went to the woods. We tend to tap
all the same
trees from year to year. We can see the holes where we
tapped each
year .....some are high and some are low so we know how
much snow we
had. I could have stayed out all day it was so
beautiful. Since
then the weather has been cold so no sap to collect yet.
Another
day we spent digging out our fire pit for boiling down
our sap we
collect. Now it's just a waiting game for it all to
begin.
It's been quite a
winter this
year with regular snow storms and lots of work digging
out. Our
chickens are just waiting for a day they can get
outside.

From Doug
For us, good days
are few and
far between. We have ‘normal’ days but seldom get to
enjoy a
good day. When one comes along it’s worth writing about.
Monday was
one such day and so I’ll tell you about it.
Firstly, it was the
last and
nicest of several sunny warm days, the kind you’d find
in late
spring. After a nice morning walk we did our usual
morning trip up
the gondola for coffee. At the risk of repeating myself,
routine and
familiarity are important. Because it was a rather
glorious morning
several of our motorcycle friends rode up from the city
to join us.
They had become pass holders when we played that music
gig a while
ago and are making use of them. As well there was the
usual people
there that join us most mornings. Then, to our surprise,
Jane and her
husband Chris turned up. They usually go there later in
the day than
we do. So, we had the makings of a party in the sunshine
on the deck
up on the mountain. We ended staying there an hour
longer than usual
and we all had a very enjoyable morning.
We went for another
walk after
we got home, it was just too nice to stay in the house.
After lunch
Jane came over so we could do another enjoyable music
session. We are
working on some ‘new to us’ songs and that always
injects some
fresh energy into our music. Sue sat contentedly on the
couch and
listened to us sing and play. I could see her tapping
her feet to the
music and she even seemed to sing along a bit. At the
end of our
session we walked Jane home and then kept on going for
another walk
in the sunshine.
Once we got home
reality set
back in. Sue noticed my guitar and asked if I ever play
it. I told
her I had been playing it before we went for the walk.
She said she
didn’t remember that so I said I had been playing it as
Jane and I
did our songs. She was surprised that Jane had been over
because she
said she didn’t know Jane had been here. Sadly, that’s
our normal
these days too. However the rest of the day was calm and
relaxed so
all in all a very good day.
Something she’s
been hung up
on lately is the idea that her parents live next door to
us but she
doesn’t see them much because they are away a lot. She
also seems
to think that she is currently at ‘Doug’s’ house but
isn’t
sure why. She knows my name but not really who I am. She
seems to
understand that I’m taking care of her until she can go
home. This
too is our current ‘norm’. Here is a pic taken on the
mountain
deck on Monday showing Sue and I, and Jane and her
husband Chris.

We
(Jane
& I) finished up recording another song, this time
its a
Neil Young song called ‘Long May You Run’. I’m not
actually a
Neil Young fan but he did write some nice material.
Something I
should point out regarding our recordings is that
while my tendency
is to stuff in as many tracks of harmony as I can
squeeze into a
song, that is not what our goal is when Jane and I
record. We are
simply trying to reproduce as close as possible what
we sound like
when playing live. The result is a simple clean sound.
So, here’s
our nice laid back version of this song. Enjoy.

May
You Run
