From Carol
I suppose the big
story this
week should be the snow but here in Kitchener on Sunday
we only
received 10 cm. In expectation we would be hit like
Toronto church
was canceled and schools were closed Monday. Toronto had
a record
high amount of snow in a 24 hour period. Too bad all
that snow didn’t
land on the mountain tops in BC where it is needed. What
we did have
in Kitchener were 2 horrific accidents of cars sailing
off the
flyover ramp on the expressway onto the road below. The
police are
saying driver error but it wouldn’t have happened
without the large
snow bank enabling this to happen.
Now a totally
different topic;
have you ever caught sight of someone out of the corner
of your eye
that looks vaguely familiar and when you turn to look it
isn’t a
person at all? You are looking at a reflection of
yourself in a
window or mirror but it is not the version of yourself
you have in
your mind’s eye. Even though I look in the mirror every
day in my
mind I see myself as I was 20 or 30 years ago. Part of
who I am has
always been my curly hair. I hated it when I was a
teenager when the
in look was long straight hair. I grew to accept that my
hair was
just part who I am and stopped trying to control it. I
don’t know
if it is the result of old age or all that time in the
hospital but
my hair is no longer curly which is why it surprises me
when I get an
unexpected glimpse of myself. Grandma never stopped
thinking of
herself as a beautiful 20 year old blonde and when I was
younger I
couldn’t understand how she could deceive herself that
way. I was
never a beautiful 20 year old blonde but now I
understand because in
my mind’s eye I look like I did at 50, despite seeing
that stranger
in the mirror each day.

From Gary
Hi folks. Only news
is the
weather.
We’ve been locked
in a deep
freeze and plenty of snow. 2 Thursdays in a row my son
in law, Pat
couldn’t drive to his office in Toronto. He normally
goes in once a
week. We had about 12-15” on the ground and then the
lake effect
snow started. We now have 4-5’ snowfall. It started
Saturday and
ended Wednesday late afternoon. Sunny and cold today.
-15 high today.
I bought a cheap ($25.00) down filled coat 8 or 10 years
ago. It’s
finally cold enough to wear as long as I only have a t
shirt on
underneath. Thanks Tim and Heidi for their big
snowblower they
brought back from stonewall. It’s really getting a good
workout.
Stay safe everyone.

From Doug
One of the many
things that
are very difficult these days is finding opportunities
to work on our
music and thats important given our upcoming gondola
gig, and for my
well being. As well, we had been working on some
recordings of our
‘Doug & Jane’ music. Some things can’t be done when
you
can’t pay proper attention to them. We have however
managed to work
on another song, but only managed short bits of time
each time. On
Wednesdays I drop Sue off at a day program that is aimed
at Alzheimer
patients and while the program is 2 hr long, my actual
time to myself
is not much more than an hour given driving time back
and forth and
the fact that I MUST be there when she comes out. That
precious
little hour has given us small measures of time to work
uninterpreted
on recordings and, after quite a while, we do in fact
have another
song recorded and uploaded to my web site.
This is a Beatles
song called
‘Let It Be’. Jane takes the lead and I do my usual thing
putting
in a bit of harmony and the guitar tracks. This link
will take you to
the song. It is on that web page I’ve set up so you
could get to it
that way as well by simply going to that bookmark I had
suggested you
make and choosing the song there. Either way, please
give it a listen
and hopefully you’ll enjoy it as much as we did making
it.
