Winter has hit with
a
vengeance as another storm went through this past week.
This time
high gusty winds blew through. By morning it was hard to
see where
the sidewalk and lane was from all the drifts. We had to
shovel our
way to the tractor shed. Now that it is all cleaned up
it doesn't
seem all that bad.
The chickens are
getting
anxious to get out of the coop but they will have to
wait. When the
temps are at freezing we have to keep them inside or
their water
freezes. We have one water container that is plugged in
and keeps
it from freezing but that is not enough . It is designed
for the
chickens to suck on a spout for water and there are only
3. So we
need a much larger water container besides. So I haul
hot water to
them regularly. There is not much more going on. Hope
all is
well.

From Carol
This has been
another quiet
week. Originally we had planned on going up for the 70th
Wiarton
Willie festival but the weather up there didn’t seem too
promising.
It turned out to be a beautiful sunny day in Kitchener
but Willie
didn’t see his shadow so predicted an early spring, I am
not
holding my breath. We are now planning on going up for
the Family Day
weekend, weather permitting. Al really wants to get down
to Niagara
Falls while it is still so cold because, according to
pictures, it
has a huge ice wall in front of the Horseshoe Falls. We
were there
once years ago when the Falls was frozen but it is
supposed to be
even better this year. When Al’s dad was still living
and residing
in Chippewa we would go for 2 night stays at least 4
times a year. We
started bringing grandsons when they were little and
then Nick’s
other grandparents started coming twice a year then Mom
and Cindy,
then Evelyn and Ed and Dad. By the time the boys hit
high school and
couldn’t be pulled out of school for a couple of days
Vivvy was
ready to go in their place. Gale came along a couple of
times with
Jenna, another couple brought their granddaughters. It
was fun for
all ages as we would gather in the courtyard, play
cards, swim,
socialize. The last time a big group of us went together
was just a
month before Mom passed away. I am so glad I have
wonderful memories
of all those who are no longer with us.

From Doug
The sun came out
for a few
days this week and therefore the rains went away for
those same few
days. This has been one of the wettest and warmest
winters on record
around here. However, during those few days of sunshine,
the already
mild temps climbed up into the mid teens. Down right
warm out. But,
and its a really big BUTT, there is almost no snow up in
the
mountains. What little snowpack we had has now almost
disappeared.
That is a very bad thing. Unless we somehow get a lot of
late season
snow in the mountains, we will be in very bad shape next
summer with
no water and dried out forests.
Tomorrow, (Sunday)
is our next
world famous gig up at the gondola. It’s one of their
‘Sunday
Socials’ events. I’m actually hoping for poor weather
conditions
for that because whenever it is a nice sunny weekend,
they can get
incredibly busy and then its loud and chaotic. I’d much
rather it
be quiet and comfy and sort of intimate. That would make
for a much
nicer setting for our laid back easy listening music.
Last week I had
mentioned that
we had managed to find some small bits of time where I
could
concentrate on finishing up some recordings that Jane
and I had been
working on and we’ve now finished up this song, Sonney’s
Dream,
and it’s ready to share. Its a song about an east coast
farm boy
who has been stuck on the farm and dreams about heading
out into the
world. Its laid back and fun, so give it a listen.
