In this country we
can always
talk about the weather. For most of last weekend I
needed to wear a
light jacket while outside but then came Monday. The
temperature went
up to 31 and Nick dipped his feet in the water of Colpoy
Bay but then
we headed to Red Bay with its sandy bottom and shallow
waters where
Nick stayed in the water for ages and got his shorts
wet. I even
waded in for a bit. Two days later there was frost
Wednesday night in
Wiarton. The warm weather also opened up my lilac
blossoms at home. I
transplanted a lilac bush from the Homestead 46 years
ago so the
roots must be fairly old. We really appreciated Nick’s
help with
the heavy lifting getting the place in Wiarton ready for
summer but
it wasn’t all work. There is a place that serves
homemade ice cream
in Wiarton and another in Big Bay. We always take a
drive down to
have ice cream from both places so we can debate over
which place is
better.

From Gary
Hi folks. Another
week flew
by. Victoria long weekend started cool and wet but soon
turned hot
and sunny. Sunday reached 29C. Woke up up to frost this
morning with
highs in low teens last few days and into the next few
days. As I
like to say, global warming sure is making it cold. The
pictures are
our apple tree, common blue violets ( edible) and our
lilacs.
Hopefully I will get the garden planted this weekend if
it’s not
too wet. Hopefully the frost is done. Take care and stay
safe
everyone.

From Doug
It has occurred to
me that by
this time last year we had shut down for the summer. We
had ended in
mid May. So, with that in mind I’m thinking that a good
time to
break for the summer would be next Saturday, May 30.
That can be our
last issue until September assuming there is still
interest at that
time. So, here’s your notice that next week’s issue will
be it
for now and if you’d like to contribute your story,
please do so.
And now for a short
update on
my almost unending cataract eye issue….. I’ve had my
followup
exam at my local optometrist because I refused to go
back to the guy
in the city. I’ve had it way up to ‘here’ with that
nonsense.
Exam was great, the laser treatment to remove the scar
tissue was
successful and now my vision is clear. For unknown
reasons the
surgeon had put a lens in my right right eye that gives
near vision
but needs glasses for far vision. (For all I know he put
the lens in
backward). My left eye has the lens for far vision and I
had wanted
both eyes to be the same. I don’t know why the right eye
has a near
vision lens but I’m NOT going to go through having it
replaced. In
some ways its actually ok because I can get by quite
nicely without
glasses now, left eye seeing far and right eye seeing
near.
Apparently lots of people choose that setup. I didn’t
but now have
it. It works, perhaps it works better than how I had
wanted it. So,
new glasses are on order now, one side will correct for
far
sightedness and the other for nearsightedness. New
glasses with
highest quality progressive lens’s now-a-days cost as
much as my
first new car did 60 years ago.
I would like to say
that the
vast majority of people having cataract surgery have no
issues at
all, everything goes smoothly and they end up with clear
bright
vision. One of our readers is going through this right
now. I won’t
mention her by name but she’ll marvel at how much better
‘seeing’
will be.
OK, next week is
our last
issue before our summer break so lets hear from a whole
bunch of you
for that occasion.
