From Carol
Last Sunday I went
with my
cousin, Sharon, to see the Drayton theatrical production
of Finding
Netherland. I had seen the movie but wasn’t expecting
this
wonderful musical performance. I have always enjoyed
live performance
theatre. Back in high school a couple of years my
English class went
to Stratford and in the 80s and 90s a friend was able to
get
discounted Stratford tickets through her work. I first
went to KW
Little Theatre productions and KW Musical productions in
high school.
My first time to a Drayton show was when they only had
the theatre
actually in Drayton but I can’t remember what I saw.
Aunt Evelyn
had a membership, which Sharon took over, and Vivienne
and I joined
her and her great granddaughter Lily for a few shows
aimed at
children. The Centre in the Square is a wonderful
theatre but tickets
can be costly. On the whole I prefer musical productions
to straight
plays or musical artists. I can’t tell you a favourite
experience
over the years because so many were exceptional but I
don’t
remember ever leaving a live show and saying that was a
waste of
time. The very first time I ever went to see something
where tickets
needed to be purchased was with Sus. Grandma’s border
Mr. Cox gave
us tickets to see Wayne and the Timbertones. Do you
remember that
Sus? It was before Dad joined the Barbershopers. We sat
in the front
and told everyone around us that Wayne was our uncle.

From Gary
Nothing to write
about this
week so here’s some pictures. Evy and Harley,
wildflowers. The
bloodroots are already finished. We’re having cold
weather but we
finally got some much needed rain. Enough to lift the
fire ban. Take
care everyone.

From Doug
Would you believe
the west
coast is already on water restrictions, this early in
the season?
There had been very little snow in the mountains, just
endless rain
all winter. Now the reservoirs are low and there has
been no rain
since the end of March to fill them. All that winter
rains simply ran
off and away. One of the biggest as stupidest waists of
water is the
watering of lawns. The hotter and drier the summer gets,
the more
people seem to think they need to water. Grass should be
left to go
dormant during the dry season. I see lawn sprinklers
sprinkling away
and the water is running off the yard and down the
gutter, totally
waisted. End of rant.
I have to admit
that these
days I feel hopelessly trapped. Having to be on-duty
24/7 does that
to you. Like I mentioned, we’ve had weeks of sunny
weather with no
end in sight and my motorcycle is sitting there unused.
I can’t
take Sue with me on it and I can’t leave her home alone
so I’m
pretty well stuck. And that basically applies to every
aspect of
life. Very depressing.
