My Harley Sportster
was not
due for it’s next oil change for another 2 or 3 thousand
clicks so
that kind of thing was not high on my list of things to
do. Last
Saturday I actually had a chance to go out for a short
ride, alone.
As I headed out of town I noticed quite a few bikes at
the casino and
a tent with some logos on it. So, being curious, I
pulled in to see
what was going on. The tent and the people putting on
this little
event were from Deeley’s, the Harley dealer in the city,
the one
who I and everyone who ever dealt with them hates.
Anyway, they had
with them a sample of new bikes that riders could take
out for a demo
ride. I wasn’t interested in that. As well, they were
doing
‘pop-up’ oil changes. They had several of their techs
available
to change bike oil. The prices were well below their
usual dealer
rates, but they didn’t have a rate for Sportsters which
have 2
holes, not 3 like the cruisers. They hadn’t even thought
about
that. So, if I was interested they would do both holes
for the price
of just doing the engine oil. Ok.
Something else they
hadn’t
though through was the because they didn’t bring a bike
jack, the
techs had to lay on the ground and reach under the bikes
to drain the
oils. Interestingly, that mean my Sportster was the
easiest bike for
them to do. So, I had an early oil change at a bargain
price. Now I
won’t have to think about it until the end of the riding
season.
Oh, being typical Deeley techs, they over filled my oil.
Go figure.

On this past
Wednesday our
riding club held a picnic at Porteau Cove. I had
intended to ride but
the forecast was for VERY hot temps and with all the
cold and wet
we’ve been having, I am not acclimatized to it being
hot. As well,
Sue wasn’t feel great, so, we caged it but that was ok.
Most of the
group rode but a few came in their cages. It turned out
that a very
brisk wind off the water kept the temperature very
comfortable so we
could have ridden but oh well, next time.
