Hot. Yup, its been hot, and dry. I’ve had to water the plants regularly, including the blueberries which like everything else are running about a month late this year. In fact, my blueberries are just getting started. I’ve picked a small bowl of them this week, enough for to have with ice cream but for the most part they are all still little green balls. Here we are at the end of July and the ripeness level is about where it should have been at the end of June. That cold wet spring just wouldn’t go away and when it finally did, we went right in to a hot dry summer.

Drive belt. I have never before adjusted to tension on the drive belt of any of my Harleys. I did do that this week on the Sportster. It’s belt had been set way too tight at the dealers and our local bike repair shop had loosened it off a bit when they replaced that rear wheel bearing a year ago. All was and is good now. But, the amount of looseness seemed to increase a bit to the point where the drive belt was perhaps a bit too loose. So, I decided to adjust it, tighten it a bit. Thats basically no different than adjusting the drive chain on a chain drive bike.

The biggest part of the job was removing the side bags. They are bolted on rather that being held in place by easy to remove clips or brackets. The same bolts are what hold the rear fender etc in place. So, it takes a good 20 minutes to remove the bags, and the same 20 minutes to re-mount them. The actual adjusting of the rear drive belt only takes 15 minutes. Anyway, all done, could do it quicker next time if needed.
