Leftover love......

Valentine's Day has come and gone - we have given her the red roses, or that huge box of chocolates; behaved ourselves for the day - now we've no further need for love - right? Wrong. It is said, " Love is the answer".

What does our dictionary have to say about love? "Strong devotion to or passionate affection for another person or persons......" It goes on, and on about love, as there are many kinds of love - we'll just learn about a warm liking; fond or tender feeling for your sweetheart, because that's what Valentine's Day is all about.

Some well known and famous people have tried their best to enlighten us about true love. Who are they and what do they have to say?

"Love is composed of a single soul inhabiting two bodies" Aristotole's reflection on love describes it as "a deep bond that unites two people on a soul level, transcending physical existence" (Huh?)

"Love is when the other person's happiness is more important than your own " H. Jackson Brown Jr. knows what he's talking about - his theory worked successfully for my 57 years of marriage.

" To love and be loved is to feel the sun from both sides" We thank David Viscott for his 'short and sweet' words.

"The heart has its reasons of which reason knows nothing" I share my reasons with Blaise Pascal - no one could see why I would trade my happy-go-lucky single life to become a married man with two children in one leap!

"Where there is love, there is life" Mahatma Gandhi knows "Love is the answer"

I don't want to spoil my welcome. Did you like these quotes? I have found a few more which I'll send you in next week's Squamidian if you please?

It's been very cold and we had a few snow storms too. Lots of strong winds and even a bit of rain that caused icy conditions. Walking was tricky without slipping. We spread salt and sand on all our paths to the chicken coop, cars and sidewalks. The huge white tarp we bought to cover our greenhouse roof ripped in a couple of places but most still holding. Other wise we are doing fine.

Not much else happening. Next week looks better weather-wise. We did start some seedlings in our 3 tier lighting system in our spare room so we will have some early lettuce etc. It makes you feel like spring is not that far away when you start planting this early.

How’s it going…..eh?

Had a scam call the other day. Not as disturbing as the one brother Gary received but frustrating none the less.

This is the bank security office calling” We’ve all received phone calls like that. You know immediately that its a low life scammer trying to get your banking info. Firstly, no ‘bank’ is going to make a call like that in the first place. The voice has not asked for a specific person, or identified just which bank it claims to be. Thats a big giveaway. Then the voice informs you (whoever the ‘you’ may be) that “we think there may be unauthorized activity on your credit card”, going on to say that “there have been 2 charges on your card, one for over $300 at Walmart and another for several thousand at an electronics store”. (No indication as to which Walmart or where the electronics store might be). At this point the scammers hopes they have you hooked and instruct you with “if you think these are not your purchases press ‘1’ to speak to one of our officers”. Of course you are well aware that that ‘officer’ would then require you to identify yourself, and give them all the banking and credit card info ‘they’ need to pursue this further. Thats all total bullshit. They want your info, they want access to your bank account and credit cards. Of course you are too smart to fall for this and hang up rather than pressing ‘1’ even though it is tempting just so you can screw with their heads and give them all sorts of fake and confusing information. So, you simple hang up and grumble a bit about how there are so many low life creeps in this world. Sadly, some people must fall for this crap. You have to wonder just how proud their mothers must be of them and wish that the fleas of a thousand camels will infest their arm pits.

If this were real, it would not be the ‘bank’ calling you, it would be a representative from your card company and that person would identify his or her self and then tell you your name, card number and so on. They would verify your last usage of you card and then explain what the questionable charges are and that you can have them cancelled and your card frozen. All very professional and clear and forward. They won’t ask for personal info, at all, ever.

Then there is the bombardment of email scams. My email is set up so that only the heading line of the message shows. I don’t see the actual email unless I open it. I could preview it but even that is risky. The last scam email I received indicated in the heading that it was from a hacker and that I should be noticing a change in my computer’s behavior. There was and is no changes in my computer’s behavior. The whole ideas is to get ‘me’ to open said email. The simple act of doing that would trigger whatever malware was imbedding in the mail and let it lose on my system. Not at all a good idea. Needles to say, that email was deleted.

We are bombarded by these scammers and at least, for now, my wits are still sharp enough to recognize them for what they are. My advice to everyone is to be very suspicious of anyone you don’t know calling your phone or contacting you in any way. And, if you like, have some fun with it.
