Hello everyone!
Isn’t it incredible
how long
the summer weather is lasting? When I think back to the
days of my
youth, I remember how short the summers seemed to be!
Maybe that was
because us kids knew we’d be returning to school shortly
after
Labour Day!
Now one season
flows into the
next!
I just returned
from my daily
walk around the block! It takes me one full hour to walk
the entire
block! Of course our block is quite big! The
Nephrologist insists
that I walk either one hour or ten thousand steps per
day! He’s
concerned with the good of my heart, so he says!
What a kidney
specialist is
thinking about my heart for I don’t know! I guess it’s
all
connected and I can’t live without either one of those
organs!
Now if I could only
get rid of
this damned cough that’s been bugging me for 6 weeks!
The family
doctor says that the cough is persistent and affecting
thousands from
the maritimes to BC!
He said the medical
professionals can’t get a handle on what’s causing it,
or a
treatment for it! No medicine or cough drops seem to
help get rid of
it!
He said it lasts in
most cases
over 100 days!
They’re just
calling it the
hundred day cough!
It’s a dry cough
that won’t
allow you to cough anything up! Thus, “the dry cough”
name!
Just have to put up
with it I
guess!
Oh well, what’s one
more
illness?
Fortunately, life
goes on!
I hope you’re all
keeping
well these days!
Thanks for tuning
in again!
Bye for now!
All the best!
GREG.

They were working
just fine
until I had my annual check-up the other day, now the
right one
doesn't work.
"You do not have
'Age-related Macular degeneration', but diabetes has
done some damage
as can be expected. You should be alright for another
year; that will
be $85 for today" said the eye doc.
But, I'm NOT
alright! I phoned
and left a message as there was no one manning the ship.
They didn't
call back, so I went to their office today - nobody
home! The sign on
the door read,
Office
hours 9:AM to 4:PM
Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday
Pretty 'skimpy'
hours, for a
doctor. Next window of opportunity is next Thursday.
I'll have my
'aggressive' daughter-in-law make the call - if they
don't make an
emergency appointment for me, they'll be sorry!!
Bettie is my
driver, and
'care-giver' (and sometimes my mother!) God bless her!
I'm having trouble
typing this
story as I see clearly with only my left eye.

Finally
our
road construction is done and we have a beautifully
paved road
and no construction crews holding us up. It seemed to be
construction everywhere we went these days. Hopefully
our property
taxes are not increasing from all that work. Now I can
give my car a
good cleaning from using all the gravel roads just
trying to avoid
the construction.
Here
in
Nova Scotia we have so many back roads as we call them.
My Dad
loved driving them looking for good fishing streams. He
called it
culvert hopping. Many of the fish he caught were brought
home to be
placed into our ponds to multiply and stock. In all he
dug out 3
ponds on our property and was successful. The fish could
leave or
come back as they pleased. Dad knew what he was doing
and he never
had to restock.
I
am forever thankful to my parents for what they created
here and we
do our best to continue their path.

How’s
it
going…..eh?
In
a
previous issue I mentioned the milky silty water flowing
down our
local rivers. I had said it was the result of the
melting ice fields
up in our local mountains the was the cause. That was
correct but
I’ve narrowed it down from that broad explanation. Turns
out that
while that is true, much of the milky runoff is from
where the
melting ice fields are now exposing old ash beds. Ash
from the
volcanic activity that was wide spread around here
thousands of years
ago. There is one particular ice field on the north side
of Mnt
Garibaldi that has melted back and exposed the old ash
that was laid
down those many millennia ago. The melting ice water is
eating into
and wash away the find ash particles, as well as the
rock particles
and is flowing down into the rivers. Now you know.

We
all
must endure a constant barrage of span emails and spam
text
messages. Most are quite easy to spot as they are
written in very
poor English and make no sense at all except for their
attempt to
grab your personal information. Others however can be a
bit tricky to
spot, depending on circumstances. A common text scam
these days is
the one that tells you that your package can not be
delivered due to
some missing information. This one is easy to catch if
you have not
ordered anything on line but could well catch you are
indeed waiting
for a delivery.
I
had ordered an item that was to be delivered via Canada
Post and low
and behold, I got a scam text alerting me to the fact
that my item
could not be delivered and was being held until I
followed the
embedded link and filled out the ‘missing’ information.
This scam
would have been easy to fall for except that I tend to
be suspicious
of everything regarding text messages and email
‘notifications’.
The message certainly looked legit but just didn’t seem
‘right’.
Needless to say, I deleted it without clicking on
anything. And,
guess what, my package turned up that very say day. If I
had followed
the link I’d have alerted the creeps to the fact that I
existed and
they’d have hounded me for address and banking info. So,
never
follow any link that is sent to you. If you are not
sure, contact the
business or where ever and ask them. That
simple.
Now,
here’s
another important tip…. When (not if) you get a phone
call
that is even just possibly a scam, do not under any
conditions use
the word YES. They will start the conversation by asking
if this is
‘so and so’. Now here’s the thing, they are recording
your
voice. So, by replying with a YES, you have given them
permission to
do whatever it is they are trying to do, such as follow
up on
emptying your back account or some such thing. They will
record the
whole conversation and then edit it to make it sound
like you have
agreed to all sorts of things. Therefore, never reply
with a YES,
just simply ask who is calling, or NO, that person is
not here, that
kind of thing.
The
thing
to keep in mind is that the low-life scammers are
depending on
something that is common with OUR generation, that
being, we tend to
be polite, and we tend to want to be helpful and
cooperative. It goes
against our childhood training to not do so, but we must
for our own
good. So, let yourself be rude, let yourself be a jerk
if necessary.
It’s hard but it’s the best tool against a world that is
stacked
against us. And, have fun doing it.
