Transition to hot summer…. After a cold wet May and June, summer is finally here. Sunny days, nice nights, but by weeks end way too hot. Right up into the mid 30’s. Thats not good at all. The country around here dries out very fast so now the issue is the forest fire threat. Fingers crossed.

Bike tuner and OEM pipes….. I had mentioned a while back about now having a motorcycle repair shop here in town. I had them do some work on the Sportster at that time and one of the things I had them do was supply and install a Vance and Hines tuner. Thats the thing that can install (upload) a new fuel map for the ECM. Because I’ve been running free flowing air intake and free flowing pipes, the bike was putting out lots of power but I really didn’t like how loud it was or that it ran a bit rough when not on the throttle. When on the throttle it ran like a race engine but off throttle it didn’t seem to know what to do. In other words, it was tuned for speed and power. Thats not something I really care about. So, with the tuner and the tuner app on my iPhone I was able to download and install a better map and it did run a bit less harsh but still too loud and sort of raspy. So, I downloaded the V & H version of the OEM map and installed it. As well, I pulled the loud pipes off the bike and put the OEM quieter pipes back on. The bike is now totally regulation compliant, and much easier on my old ears. The down-side is it may run a bit hotter again which I won’t like. I’ll have to live with the quieter setup for a while to see how it runs and feels. I’ll let you know.

As for the other bike, the Royal Enfield Himalayan, its put-putting along just fine. It is quiet, anything but fast and powerful, but gets incredible milage. My biggest problem bike-wise these days is deciding which one to take out for a toot.
