Smoke cleared out with cooler weather.

Our heat wave finally ended after many very hot weeks. With the cooler weather came a few showers which were badly needed, and, the forest fire smoke that had been hanging around cleared out. Interestingly, the only smoke we had to deal with here was not from the many fires in the interior, it was from fires south of the border, brought up by the heat wave that moved up from the south.

The cooler temps also meant I could actually take the bikes out for a ride simply to enjoy the ride. In the heat the ride was not enjoyable as it was too hot and so there was no cooling for either me or the bike engine. Those Harley engines are like furnaces when its hot out.

Sadly, my blueberries are over for the season. As I’ve said before, the south end of my patch did way better than expected this year, but the north end did nothing at all. The small patch over by the fence did very well, as well. Neither produced any berries last year due the heat and drought as well as winters that were too cold. Also sadly, the birds have gotten or destroyed most of the berries. I’d guess that for every berry I picked, the birds pecked at and ruined 10. Very frustrating and disappointing.

Related to the heat we had had, I didn’t get to do much riding this summer, partially due to the heat and partly due to the traffic. One thing I have found which is kind of cool is that the little Royal Enfield seems to be getting over 90 miles to the gallon. Thats quite nice, in metric it would be about 33 km per liter. Down right nice.
