As you know, I hate long weekends. Traffic on these roads and highways become a nightmare and this past one was just as horrendous as they can be. We had ridden in to Horseshoe Bay for our usual Sunday morning get-together. Sunday mornings tend to be the calmest time of a long weekend, in the middle so everyone is where they want to be. At least thats how its supposed to be. From the start we noticed heavy traffic in both directions. After coffee with friends on the deck of the Lookout in the Bay, we headed for home. As soon as we got onto the highway we knew it was going to be a difficult ride. Volume was very high and traffic moving very fast. That mean every pinch point was gong to be a problem, and they were. That meant duck walking the bike in stop and go traffic as the morons fought with each other as they ‘merged’ at the pinch points. We are supposed to do the ‘zipper’ which works very well as long as everyone adheres to the process. All it takes is a few who won’t do the zipper to screw it up for everyone else and of course thats what happens every time. Then, once you get out of the 2-lane sections and into the 4-lanes sections, half the drivers go like hell in order to get a few cars ahead. That then bungs up the next pinch point even more because is becomes like 3 people all trying to use a toilet at the same time, simply does not work.

And then we got to the Furry Creek hill. As expected, it was a parking lot. I don’t believe in riding up the shoulder but I had no choice. Either I or the bike’s clutch or both would burn out long before I got to the top. I did have to inch my way along until there was a bit of a widening in the shoulder of the road as there was a white pickup truck a few cars ahead that kept pulling a bit onto the shoulder in order to block bikes. I have a name for drivers like that but this is a family friendly letter so I’ll keep it to myself. At a slight jog in the placement of the side barriers I was able to get by him before he could again block the shoulder and was able to use the shoulder to the top which also let the engine cool a bit. Then, back into the stop and go until we got all the way to the light in Britannia. After that it was just very heavy going with idiots darting from lane to lane, but, we made it home. I was exhausted and probably a bit dehydrated. I hate long weekends and the traffic and people they seem to bring out.

Then there was the miserable brat having a major temper tantrum at the grocery store. It was unbelievable. Neither I nor anyone else there had ever seen such a display of ‘out of control kid’. It seems this kid, a boy about 5, decided he wanted something and began to scream at the top of it’s lungs that he ‘wanted’ whatever. He was with what I assumed was his grandparents and they must have said no. At that point the kid became violent and started throwing the cartons of blueberries from the display, all over the floor. Then he grabbed another display and pulled it down, all the while screaming that he wanted something. I sure would have given him ‘something’ but it wouldn’t have been what he wanted but would have been what he needed. He then ran behind the customer service desk where the grandfather was able to catch him. He continued to struggle and scream. By then I was out the door and grateful to be away from that miserable brat.

If this kid isn’t dealt with soon, he will be knifing people in the stomach by the time he’s in his early teens because they won’t hand over what ever it is they have and he wants. My god, our future is not looking good if this is an example of what kind of ‘people’ are coming into our world.
