Hi
guys,
how’s it gong…..
As
promised,
I am checking in with all of you to see if there is any
interest in starting this letter back up. Actually, it
would be more
accurate to ask if you are interested in receiving it
because we will
start it back up for those who are. Let us know.
And,
to
say ‘starting it back up’ is not accurate either because
I
never actually stopped writing it. I just stopped
sending it out over
the summer. I kept on writing because it gives me a way
of keeping
track of what I’ve been up to and so on. Those
‘unpublished’
issues are all there on my web site. I think I’ve done
some of my
best writing and some of my worst writing in those
issues because it
didn’t matter and that’s how it goes. So, let us know if
you’d
like to receive this letter again starting next weekend,
and perhaps
start sending in your stories of the summer. For that
matter, let us
know it there is anyone else who is not on the mailing
list but might
like to be. Just keep in mind that some degree of
involvement is a
requirement, the only requirement.
Now
for
some other business…..
Sue
and
I had planned to do a road trip back to KW in September.
There is
unfinished family business that needs to be dealt with
and a visit
would be nice. However, we have scraped that idea as the
forest fire
situation here in BC has become a very big and bad
problem. At this
point in time the south west coastal area including
Squamish is not
in any danger BUT the few highways that lead out of this
province
heading east are closed or can be closed in the blink of
an eye
making a driving trip impossible. As well, all the motel
rooms from
here to central Alberta are full of evacuees and fire
crews, hydro
crews, and so on. On top of that, we need to stick
around home in
case the coastal situation goes down hill and we find
ourselves
having to be prepared. We’d need to be here in order to
grab the
necessary documents and items that would need to be kept
safe. It’s
not likely to come to that but we’d need to be here if
it did. So,
next weekend’s Squamidian will be published as planned.
Our
next
possible window to do a road trip back to KW would be at
the end
of September into October. Again, that would all depend
on the fire
situation. The fires may by then be under control, or
not. The motels
would probably still be full of evacuees which would be
a problem
because if no motel rooms are available at the end of a
day’s drive
heading east, we’d have to keep going and keep driving
for several
more hours until we were well out beyond Calgary and
into central
Alberta. But this is all speculation and we’ll have to
evaluate it
at that time so in a way this whole paragraph is a bit
of a waist of
time.
So,
shall
we fire-up (poor choice of word) the old Saturday
morning email
tradition and share our stories and adventures? We are
looking
forward hearing from you.

a
good one.
