The Squamidian Report – Oct. 28 / 17
Issue #805
Hi All,
As most of you already know, we lost a member of our Squamidian family
this week. Ed Mansz passed away. He will certainly be missed by all. He
walked through life as a gentleman and always found something to smile
and laugh about. Our thought go out to Evelyn and the rest of his
immediate family.

Now this has taken me totally by surprise, while
normally at this time of year our weather goes down hill real
fast, we find ourselves enjoying a couple of weeks of sunny and dry
days with starry nights. Who'd a thunk it?
Even though my bike insurance doesn't expire until the last day of the
month, I had pretty well figured my riding season was over as it had
turned cold and wet in month. The poor old bike was parked in it's
winter corner, ready to be covered up and forgotten about. The pickup
truck was again being parked inside. That poor thing must think we
forget about it all summer as it sits unused out on the parking spot
down by the street and is assumably quite happy to again be permitted
to park inside beside the car where they can chat and basically catch
up with each other as to how things are going and so on. But much to
the trucks's dismay, it has been moved back out and the bike again
takes its garage bay. With the return of the sun and dry warmish days,
I've been able to do some nice day rides. Last Tuesday after having
coffee with a friend up at the gondola I decided to pop up to
Pemberton. Now, Tuesday is my Horseshoe Bay evening so that meant after
riding north to Pemberton I would be able to toot all the way back down
and just keep on going out to the coast. While it was a bit chilly
through Whistler where they had enough snow last week to close the
highway, the ride was pretty nice. The west coast version of colored
leaves decorated the hills and the air was about as clear and clean as
can possible be. I must admit that by the time I got home after leaving
The Bay I could have used my heated riding gear, or at least could have
used it if I were going to be riding much further as the temp tends to
drop along with the sun. But I had just ridden 300 km on a day in the
last week of October under perfect conditions and it doesn't get much
better than that.
Other days have been just out to the Bay or up to Whistler or just
around town. Its all good. The bike seems to love the cooler
temperatures. She purrs along wanting more. Cant blame her, I tend to
purr along wanting more too.
And thats all I've got so thats all you get.
