Hi All,

You may recall that last Saturday was the gondola's 3rd anniversary party. You may also recall that a year ago their celebrations took place out on the deck under a warm sunny sky. That meant there was lots of room for the musical groups that played throughout the afternoon as well as the attending public, leaving the interior of the lodge for food and beverage consumption etc. Well, as I've said so often lately, Mother Nature seems to have other ideas. Everything had to be held indoors this time. Heck, on the Friday, the day before, they couldn't keep up with the falling snow, the shovelers would get one part of the deck cleared only to find the part they had just shoveled was buried again. Snow wasn't a problem on Saturday but the wind was cold as it blew across the snowfields above and on the few occasions the sun could peak out from behind the cloud cover, it didn't seem to have much warmth to share.

However, the event went off quite well considering that attendance was down a bit due to the weather. Drapes were hung as a back drop in the corner by the wood stove giving the bands, and myself, a place to play our music. Just like last year, my set was first on the list which makes sense because a single person doing their thing has a very different energy quality than a band does. It would be weird to try to follow a band that had just rocked the place. People would probably just fall asleep. My set went well and was well received. Like last year I played my own original music. Thats not something many performers can say and I say it quite proudly. Something I apparently do differently from the others playing around here is I don't rely on sheet music, or even a play list for that matter. With a set that is only half an hour long there would be something wrong if I couldn't remember my list of songs and the words to them. But I'm a grumpy old guy and thats just the way I did it, again. I must confess though that when I play for several hours up there I do use a play list so I don't have to distract myself with trying to think of the next number to do, but don't tell anyone.

By the way, there was snow up there again on Tuesday morning and that day set a new low temp record for the daytime high. Tuesday was supposed to be the day that started a nice warm dry sunny stretch, then it was going to be Wednesday, then Thursday. Then it was going to be Friday but that didn't exactly pan out so Saturday is when the nice spring temps and sunny sky's are supposed to start. We've heard this all before so who knows. What I do know is that this is the start of the first long weekend of the 'summer', the one that kicks off all the camping and holidaying and traveling. It definitely kicks off the traveling because as of Friday the highways around here were clogged with wallowing RVs and camper carrying pickup trucks and small cars with canoes on their roofs and so on. The ferries were booked solid so anyone trying to get over to the Island would be out of luck if they hadn't made reservations. I figure I'll just stay close to home, perhaps take a toot up to Pemberton or Lillooet for lunch on the bike but generally stay close to home. Face it, why try to go somewhere when I've got 'here' to be at.

THE ONTARION REPORT

Hello everyone!

You may have noticed the absence of The Ontarion Report this past couple of weeks! Well, we have been in Rome Italy for that time. We left on May 3 and returned home on May 17th. It was a planned vacation and as it turned out, one of the most interesting vacations we’ve ever taken. We had rented an apartment in the center of Rome and spent the two weeks walking our legs off visiting every amazing historic site in that beautiful city. What an incredible experience it was to visit the many ruins and sites that are up to 2000 years old and still standing. I have many things to tell you all about but since I’m late in getting this edition out to Doug, I’ll beg off one more week and start my account of this great adventure next week!

Thanks for understanding and I’ll talk to you all again starting on May 27!
By for now and it’s good to be home again!
Happy May 2-4 weekend and Canada Day to all!
