Hi All,

The biggest topic of conversion this week has obviously been the US election. We all have our own opinions about it and the results. Depending on our individual mind set we are happy, sad, frightened, elated and so on. Either outcome would have been scary from my point of view. One thing that continues to puzzle me about elections, any election, is the poor turnout of voters. Something like 55% of eligible voters turned out (my figures could be wrong but thats not the point). That means just over a quarter of American voters voted for each candidate yet the main stream media is portraying the world in general and the US in particular as in shock and mortified whereas in reality half the people that voted are elated, half are disappointed, and the other half of the US population has no right to be either. And thats the clue to the whole situation. Main stream media along with the established ruling class has been proven to be way out of touch, and this election result is the result. Interestingly, there had been dire predictions that if Clinton won, Trumps thuds and lowlife followers would be rioting in the streets. Seems now its the other way around.

Columnist Christie Blatchford wrote an interesting article about the election and its results. Its was in the Thursday Vancouver paper and assumably in most major papers around the country. Give it a read. And yes, the sun still rose in the eastern sky the morning after. Enough said.

Yes, its still raining. We actually had a day this week where it didn't rain for part of the day. The sun came out, well, sort of came out, and that was quite nice and a bit strange because most of us have forgotten what it looks like. However, there are many areas in the coastal region that are flooded or under flood alerts. The Port Alberni area on the Island is one, the Upper Squamish Valley is another with the only roadway washed out, and the upper Pemberton Valley is under water. The list goes on. There are a lot of people around here who are getting a bit tired of all that moisture but not much anyone can do about it given we have a whole Pacific Ocean out there that is covered with low pressure cells lined up all the way from Hawaii and more forming up in the Gulf of Alaska, all dripping wet and ready to dump their loads as soon as they hit the wall of the Coastal Mountains. Up-side is no one needs to wash their cars these days.

Lastly, Friday was Remembrance Day. In some parts of the country including BC the 11th is a 'holiday', where most people have the day off. But referring to the 11th as a holiday is a travesty. It is a day of remembrance, not a day to skip work or school and hang out in the shopping plazas or other places of entertainment and diversion. An appalling number of people don't even know why they get the day off, or don't care, and are totally clued out as to what is happening and why. It doesn't help that the very second that Halloween is over, the stores are suddenly filled with Christmas decorations and the TV ads are pushing the commercial message as hard as they can. Of course its not called Christmas, its 'the holidays', the season of greed, as if greed needed a season. Greed seems to be alive and well all year round, greed and shallowness. We as a people should be ashamed of ourselves. A sad state of affairs indeed.

THE ONTARION REPORT

Hello everyone!

WOW! How about that American Gong Show of an election?

     I actually sat up till almost 3am the other night waiting for Hillary to overtake Trump but it never happened! Some of the incredible things that both candidates said over the time of their campaigns were unbelievable! Trump really did show his true colours during the 18 months and I’m surprised he made it through the entire campaign time without being dumped on his ass by his own party! I personally don’t know how he could even face President Obama on Thursday after all the rotten things he said about him over the months. He’s obviously got balls the size of King Kong! With all of the upcoming lawsuits he’s yet to face in court I’ll be surprised if he doesn’t get impeached before he even gets sworn in as President. Of course I guess you have to actually be President before you can be impeached! We’ll see if he actually makes it to the oval office first, then wait for the American people’s reaction! He’d better have damned good security around him at all times!

     I wasn’t too impressed with either Trump or Hillary over the entire 18 months! I think Hillary shit in her own nest by stooping to Trump’s level of smear tactics during the campaign and her other big mistake was to take for granted that the states that historically backed her party candidates for president would just do the same this time so she didn’t bother to even visit them to promote herself. She actually stated that she wasn’t going to bother visiting those few states because she was sure they’d support her come time to vote! Well, surprise surprise Hillary! You didn’t realize how much you offended the people of those normally Democratic states by ignoring them for the past 18 months and it backfired right in your self-righteous face! Maybe you should have had Monica Lewinski as your campaign manager and you might have learned how to gain more national attention! She could have shown you how to take the spotlight away from that other fowl-mouth that is now gloating in the limelight of his success and the shadows of your failure! Oh well, maybe you’ll have better luck next time and in the meantime you can stand in line at the food bank and ask your fellow unemployed Americans what went wrong!

     I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what the next few months bring as far as Mr Trump goes and see if he even makes it to his inauguration date without more scandal cropping up. He sure did seem to suddenly become “Mr Humble” just minutes after the final count was in but in my estimation, that’s akin to closing the barn door after the horse is gone! I doubt he’ll ever apologize for the nasty things he said about people during his speeches but I sincerely hope he feels embarrassed every time he has to deal with one of his victims face to face during his time in office. There are three things the American Trump haters can hope for and they are;

1) he’s a better president than anyone thinks he is capable of being.
2) He is impeached.
3) Assassination.

Ooooooo……. Now that’s a tad harsh I must admit but I’m sure that in “Gun Happy USA” it’s not beyond the realm of possibility. I only have a bit of advice for Mr Trump, Stay clear of The Ford Theatre and avoid contact with anybody named Oswald, Hinkley or Booth! I’m sure it’s going to be quite interesting to watch American politics over the next six months to a year. Not to mention world politics and reaction by the rest of the world powers to Mr Trump’s election to the position of US President!

     Well, back to something that’s a little more close to home! Our weather has been exceptional during the month of October. It was recorded as the warmest October in 40 years here in KW and we certainly did enjoy it! This month so far hasn’t been all that bad either. We’re still hanging on to mostly double-digit temperatures during the daylight hours and have only had a few below 0c overnight temperatures. Not bad for this time of year! We have also had mostly sunny days so far this month and as of today, the forecast is for mostly sunshine and a little above seasonal temperatures for at least the next week. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this mild (ish) weather will continue for a few more weeks yet! However, just in case, I’ll be putting my winter tires on the Jeep over this coming week sometime for sure. I don’t want to get caught with my winter pants down around my wheel nuts! That would never do! In fact, right this very minute I have my trusty Duraflame radiant heater glowing nice and warm beside me as I write this article. I also dug out my cozy electric blanket that I make good use of as I watch TV most evenings from November through March. These items were thoughtful gifts from my lovely wife and she couldn’t have picked two better items with which to endear herself to me this time of year. These two items and of course her delicious variety of soups that she brews up homemade during the colder months each year. Mmmmmm Mmmmmm……! Mr Campbell has nothing on her!

     With this time of year well under way, we’ve managed to complete most of the yard work before the snow flies. I am still watching to see if the lawn needs one more mowing before the snow settles in but am hoping I’ve cut it for the last time this year! With the sunny and relatively warm days we’re having I’d not be surprised if I still have one more mowing ahead of me but I’ll give it a few more days before dragging the mower out of the shed again. I’ve been waiting for our two trees out front to shed their lovely colourful leaves completely. I have blown a ton of them off our lawn a couple of times but they’ve been mostly from other trees on our neighbor’s properties. Our trees up until today have been mostly intact but with a good wind this afternoon they’re beginning to show signs of bare branches. I’m sure that within a couple of days they’ll be pretty much bare. We have a lovely birch tree on the front lawn and a strong Red Maple on the side yard. The Maple is the last tree each year to shed and this year is no exception. I guess it’s just in its nature to keep its leaves to the bitter end. I’ll likely be breaking out the leaf blower in the next day or two but I’d like to wait till both trees are pretty much bare. No sense in repeating the task any more than necessary! Once the leaf removal is done for the season I can pretty much lock up the shed for the winter. The snow shovels and TORO blower are already in the garage and ready for action so I don’t have to dig them out if we suddenly get a blast of winter! I guess the only other items to go into the shed will be the chairs off the front porch once the weather gets too cold to sit out with our tea and enjoy the sunshine.

That’s about it for this week folks!
Thanks for tuning in and I’ll look forward to talking to you all again next week in The Ontarion Report!

Bye for now … Greg
