A Summary of Happenings
The Ontarion
Hi All,
This week I’m going gentle on everyone. For the last several weeks I’ve rattled on and on for 4 or 5 pages. You get a break this time. I’m sticking to just a few lines….
1st line… my shiny new motorcycle now has over 75,000 kilometers on it. Wow.
2nd line… we got inundated with tourists from Ontario this week.
3rd line… tuned out there was a wasp nest behind the grill on one of the Ontario tourist’s car that had to be dealt with.

A Summary of Happenings
The tomatoes are finely ripening 3 weeks late. I planted about 80 plants. I need to pick every morning before they are totally ripe and get them before nature's critters do. They, the plants, are where there used to be razz berries. Must keep moving on to new ground. Next year perhaps out in the boulevard. Haven't tried there yet.
In other happenings, a week ago Sat., Aug. 10, I attended a special quartet event at a camp known as Harmony Woods near Lake Simcoe. During the session, about 1.30 pm I felt something hit my neck, a few minutes later I realized I have been stung. I have reacted to stings before but hope I don;t this time. However, hope dose not work. I slowly felt myself loosing it and told those around me. They held me under my arms and lowered me to the ground. The next I knew and ambulance and fire truck were on the scene and the attendants were bringing me too. As I was placed in the ambulance, the large crowd of other barbershopers had gathered and gave me a standing ovation. Off we went to the New market hospital. A doctor there explained to me that a sting can have a similar effect as a local anesthetic, to which I am allergic and wear a medic alert bracelet. Three hours later the doctor suggested I stay the night for observation but I explained that would foul up the plans of some very important people and I am feeling quite fine, thank you. They released me to some very generous friends that had followed the ambulance and thereby had missed the afternoon sessions as well. The show must go on and when it was time for my quartet to perform on the evening show, wise or not we were there.

THE ONTARION REPORT
Hello everyone!
Man these weeks are
flying by and before we know it the summer will be over! What amounted to a
very busy summer for us here in our place seems like it’s been one big blur!
Although we have accomplished a lot by finishing several projects around the
house we’ve had very little time to appreciate the results. Guess that’s the
way it goes when you own a house and like to keep it in tip top shape. The projects
aren’t a problem, but a labor of love and we always derive great satisfaction
from the finished product. Hopefully we’ll have a few more months of great
weather that’ll give us some leisure time to partake of. We didn’t get the MG
out at all this summer and I didn’t get to put the motorcycle on the road
either so consequently as you can imagine we’ve been keeping close to home! I’m
sure we’ll get both vehicles out next spring and we’ll make a point of enjoying
them like we have in past summers. We’ve had the MGB
since 1989 and really do enjoy it when we have the time to take it on our road
trips around southern Ontario. I purchased a new roof for the MG at the Bronte
British Car Show about 12 years ago and still haven’t installed it so maybe
I’ll get a chance to do so next spring before I put the car on the road again.
We spend most of the summer with the top down even when we do drive it because
we only take it out on nice weather days anyway! Hence the reason for being
tardy with installation of the new one! I’ll get the job done when I can manage
to find my “round toit”. I’ve misplaced it and of
course one can’t do much if one can’t get a round to it! LOL! That’s an old one
I learned from one of the old fire fighters that I worked with a long time ago!
There are lots of those old cronyisms from my days on the fire dept but half of
them aren’t fit for printing in this family column! LOL! If I can think of some
of the “fit” ones some day, maybe I’ll write a column about them some time in
the future.
Over the past few
years, our trees that we planted along the inside of the back yard fence have
grown to larger proportions than we thought they would. So, we decided to trim
them to shorter heights. Two weeks ago I cut the largest one to about one third
of it’s overall height and that took most of one day. Two days later I had to
spend a couple of hours cutting the branches to reasonable lengths so they’d
fit in the back of Adam’s pick up truck for a trip to the dump. Two days ago I
broke out the new electric chain saw once again and went to work on the three
crab apple trees in the corner of the yard. They were growing tall as well as
hanging out over the sidewalk on the street side of the house. It took me
another few hours to cut and remove the upper branches of these three and again
another hour or so to trim them to short lengths for disposal. These branches,
Carole and I were able to bundle and tie up for the “Yard Waste” pick up next
Monday. They weren’t quite as large as the ones from last weeks pruning! As
long as they are neatly bundled, the “Yard Waste” guys will take them away with
the bagged leaves and trimmings. I know that I’ll have a bunch of dead leaves
to clean up into a bag once I try to move them to the curb from where they sit
in the back yard. Oh well, that’s what I bought the yard waste bags for I
guess. It’s amazing how quickly the gardens grow when your back is turned! LOL!
All I have to do is
cut the grass a few times and it’s time to break out the trimmers and head for
the gardens again! This is a never-ending cycle! The only time this cycle slows
down for a while is during the winter months when the snow blowing chores take
over! That’s life here in Canada I guess! If you’re not mowing, raking and
trimming, you’re scraping and blowing snow! I guess there’s only one way out,
move to an apartment! LOL! Don’t like that idea! Guess I’ll just change the oil
in the blower and mower and get ready for more of each!
That’s it for this
week folks!
Thanks for tuning in
and I’ll look forward to talking to you all again next week in The Ontarion Report!
Bye for now … Greg
PS: Something To
Think About>
Why is it the
bicyclists do the most complaining about motorists not sharing the road
properly yet, they don’t seem to have to follow the rules of the road
themselves?
