Hi All,

What a bummer, I don’t have any motorcycle rides or road trips to talk about this week. I wouldn’t have minded hopping on my good old Harley, ‘Big Blue’, and taking a toot down to the Homestead in order to attend Gary’s wedding. However, that would have meant about 2 weeks out of my busy schedule and more importantly, about 8 nights in motels along the way there and back and that gets a bit expensive when one is retired. Mind you, I would have loved doing it, there is nothing quite as satisfying as the open road from the seat of a heavy touring machine. The long hours and long miles seem to just melt away. And then there is the problem of weather across this country this year. While we have been having great October weather for the last month, many parts of the eastern prairies and Ontario have been having wild storms. Bikes aren’t much fun in thunderstorms and driving rain. So, I wish Gary and Evelyn all the best from afar.

Just to be different, I’ve started a project in our ‘rock room’. That’s the room behind the other door in our garage, the one with the 6 ft high rock wall in it. I’ve been intending to get to this project for several years but I keep procrastinating. I was going to give up procrastinating but decided to put that off for a while longer. However, I have finally gotten around to at least starting this job. The inside wall of the rock room is bare studs and insulation, it was never finished because there was never really any reason to finish it. So, I’ve been covering the walls just inside from the door with thin plywood. That stops us from getting against the fiberglass insulation every time we get too close to a wall. We use this room, or at least the area on top of the rock, for storage of stuff we don’t use very often so we do go into there once in a while. Also, the floor is just the immediate area just inside the door, the rest is a narrow crevasse between the rock and the walls, where the rock was blasted away from when the house was built.

I’ve built a raised platform over part of the crevasse that could be used for storage or could be used for easier access up onto the rock. We’ll see who wins on that decision. Anyway, the job is started but not completed and its been a pretty quiet week around these parts so that’s about it. You get what you pay for and you didn’t pay very much so 3 paragraphs is it for this week.

THE ONTARION REPORT

Hello everyone!

With all the bad weather we’ve been subjected to lately it makes one wonder just what’s happening to cause it and why! Is it a fault of “Global Warming” or is it just another round of weather cycles that have been happening as long as the world has been in existence? With most of the tornados happening in the US lower mid west we tend to overlook the fact that we can have them here too! It’s a terrible thing to go through I’m sure and it’ll take Goderich a long time to recover but recover they will. I only wish that the federal government would pitch in and help the town get back on its feet. The feds seem to be all to willing to jump on the rescue band wagon and send hundreds of millions of dollars and other aid to countries that suffer disasters somewhere on the other side of the world but I haven’t heard one word out of Ottawa about the disaster in the town of Goderich. The Ontario Liberals have expressed their involvement to the tune of a $5 million dollar some to help the town get back on its feet but I’m sure that won’t be anywhere near enough cash to do the job. Grant it most of the buildings and businesses etc should have some form or insurance to rebuild but it will take a lot of extra money to do the job properly. What’s wrong with Ottawa sending in a couple of hundred troops to help with the clean up and the rebuilding of this beautiful Ontario town? It’s time they got off their duffs and helped out needy communities and residents right here in our own country! Does anybody know the Prime Minister’s phone number?

It’s unfortunate that even one person lost his life in that storm but there could have been many more! I hope for their sakes that no more storms hit that area this season and that the people of Goderich recover well!

I’m going to leave this week with our thoughts trained on Goderich and ask that you all say a prayer for the recovery of this Ontario town.

Thanks for tuning in and I look forward to talking to you all again next week in The Ontarion Report!

Bye for now… Greg

PS: Something To Think About>

Are you prepared to deal with the aftermath of a tornado if it should hit your area? Do you have insurance that would cover your belongings and residence in that event?
