Hi All,
I know you are probably tired of hearing about us tooting up and down the highways on our motorcycles. So I won’t bother to tell you we had one more ‘last ride of the season’ last weekend. I won’t bore you with the fact that the neighbor and his wife and Sue and I did a ride into Horseshoe Bay and back. Or that both of the women were wearing their heated vests and were nice and toasty and happy. Or that Sue bought a fancy decorative cushion while we were there, using my Visa card. And I won’t tell you that what little nice weather we were having ended just before we got home. It started to rain just as we got back into town. So I also won’t bother to tell you that the Harley needs to be washed and shined again before being put away. I’ll think about telling you that I’ll probably be putting the Harley away for the winter this weekend. Not sure yet, but I’ll think about it and perhaps let you know.

We didn’t get all that many kids knocking at the door on Halloween. First year here we were over run by them, like some kind of out-of-control rat infestation. But since then the numbers have dropped right off. Maybe I scare some of them away, I can be a grumpy old fart. But the reduced volume works in their favour. I ended up giving out three or four treats to each kid just so we could get rid of the stuff, and we still have stuff left over.
Just to inject some excitement into the works, I also gave out a limited number of those big 100g Neilson Jersey Milk chocolate bars to some of the better behaved kids on the street. They figured that they had hit the jackpot. I figure some of them probably got sick from eating way too much chocolate all at once. Sort of like turning that old saying around and coming up with “every silver lining has a cloud”.
I must admit, the kids that did come were pretty well behaved. I had to slip out to help Ryan with an emergency just as the trick-or-treat thing was getting under way. I simply put the bowl of goodies out on the porch and left it there for the 45 minutes I was gone. I figured it would have been emptied by the first greedy kid to come along but when I returned, at most about a quarter of the contents had been removed. Any kids who came while I was out must have helped themselves to just one or two treats. I was quite pleasantly surprised.

Hello everyone!
We’re
into November and if you’re not loving the weather for this time of year, you
must be living in BC! LOL! Sorry ‘bout that one Doug and Sue! Ya gotta admit
your weather this past spring summer and fall has been an inspiration for some
comedic slams! On the other hand we here in Ontarible as you like to call it
have been enjoying weather fit for the best of Southern California. I could
handle this sunshine and perfect temperatures for eternity and I’m sure most of
our fellow Squamidians would agree with me there. Looking back on what we’ve
had for weather, I’m hoping it’s an indication of what’s to come this winter. I
wouldn’t mind leaving the snow blower sit idle for the next 6 months at all.

Adam just
bought himself a new motorcycle and he’s sad to think that by the time he gets
it licensed in his name this coming week, it’ll be time to store it for the
winter. If the weather holds for a bit longer, he might get to take a ride or
two before that happens. If not, there’s always next spring!

It is
that time again to turn the clocks back. This year is the first for the new
system. I don’t know much about it but I do know that the Halloween Kiddies got
to make their rounds in semi-daylight for a change. Also for the first time in
many years it didn’t rain on the kids either. The rain held off until later in
the evening when only the older or the greedier kids were still making the
rounds. If they’re out that late they are either trying to take advantage of
the left overs in hopes that the home owner will just dump whatever is left in
their bowl into the trick or treater’s bag or they can’t tell time. Either way,
I don’t think there’s a kid out that night that would be short changed when it
comes to candy by the time they’re heading for home. We had a very poor turn
out this year despite the great weather. We watched a good TV movie and I think
the door bell only rang a couple of times throughout the evening. Of course,
having a friend leave his Doberman tied to our front porch railing for the evening
was a bit of a plus too! LOL! It was a good way to assure ourselves that we
wouldn’t be bothered during our planned movie watching evening. LOL! Just kidding!

Well, I
spent a few days of the past week putting our outdoor stuff away for the
winter. It didn’t look like there would be very much to it but as it turned out
there certainly was! When it comes to taking down the canvas on the gazebo,
trimming and clearing out the gardens, cutting the lawn for the last time and
closing up the pond etc there’s a heck of a lot to do to winterize one’s yard.
I think the next time we move to a new house, we’ll have the yard poured in
concrete. I could use a second garden shed to stash the overflow of stuff we
decorate the yard with every year. You don’t realize how much stuff you
accumulate from year to year. I am getting very good at packing the shed like a
jigsaw puzzle and so far we haven’t run out of room. Maybe next year it’ll be
time to hold another sale or perhaps purchase that second shed. At least for this
year we’ve still got enough storage room. The garage will be the challenge this
winter. With three cars and another one yet to be purchased as a winter vehicle
by Adam and three motorcycles, our two bay garage is going to be stuffed to the
rafters. It’s time to either buy a bigger home and multi bay garage or
encourage Adam to buy that house he’s been talking about moving to and watch
60% of this stuff move with him! LOL!
On well,
there’s always next year to worry about the storage problem.
Gotta go
for now. Thanks for tuning in and I look forward to talking to you all again
next time in The Ontarion Report.
Bye for now… Greg.
