Hey there.
Went out early this morning with Warren to
look for curved trees that he needs to form arches with. We went up old logging
roads that took us through unbelievable scenery. There are places where on one
side of the truck the mountainside climbs forever. It is so thickly treed you
can't see through it. On the other side it drops for hundreds of feet into
raging mountain streams. We got up as far as where the snow is still deep.
Avalanche country so we didn't go any further.
You loose count of all the waterfalls and stuff. Can't describe it, you
have to see it. We stopped some places so he could scout around. To park his
truck we would back it into a ditch so it wouldn't run away on us. Parking
brakes are made for parking lots, not mountainsides.
You can often see large dark objects through the trees, the size of
small houses. They are the stumps of old, first growth trees that were logged a
hundred years ago. There are still the old holes notched into their sides where
the original loggers had wedged their boards that they stood on so they could
cut the trees above the bell shape of the stump. Less cutting that way. I can't
figure out how anyone can walk on some of these steep slopes let alone work on
them.
