Hey All.
We had a very enjoyable week with Paul and
Sherry. Sue is on holidays and I took the week off. There were several trips
into Vancouver. Some of us climbed the
Chief again. Sherry gave it a good try as well, making it about 98% if the way.
She ran into problems with the bare, steep rock surface near the top.
It's been cool but now it's getting hot.
Cool is nice. Last weekend was the logging games where they do all sorts of
neat stuff like climbing and cutting. The saws they use have nitro burning
engines.
We all went to the aquarium one day. There
was so many people there that it was driving me nuts. Don't like crowds at all.
We went hiking up a trail in Garibaldi park. You get way up, into pretty wild
country.
They kids, Sue and I went for a drive up
the Upper Squamish River Valley. We got into some nice rugged country but when
the van's drive wheels started slipping on the steep winding roads Sue decided
we had gone far enough. No sense of adventure. I guess we need a 4x4.
Ryan and Emily's visit is just about over.
They are not looking forward to going back to Ontario air. We aren't looking
forward to them leaving.
Built a railing cap for the balcony. It
looks better now. You should see the need beams and planks you can get in the
lumber stores here.
Have fun,
Doug
Hey again.
There is the west coast train museum here
in Squamish. We went through Saturday afternoon. There is an amazing amount of
stuff to see. The Royal Hudson is there. You can go into the cab, then work
your way back through a bunch of cars all hooked together. There are several
trains with car you can go through. Lots of old pictures and equipment. Took us
an hour and a half, you could spend a lot longer. Lorne etc would love it
there.
We were into Vancouver on Friday afternoon
to see a movie. (The kid's idea, not mine.) On the way home we watched the sun
go down over Howe Sound. Can't describe it, you have to see it. On that same
note, when we went up the Squamish river valley there is a water fall that
makes Shannon Falls look like a toy. It cascades down Alfa mountain with
several sections being hundreds of feet of drop. The one section must be close
to a thousand. There is no way to actually get near it, we see it from across
the valley. Several miles away. But the air is clear here so we can.
