The afternoon grows older…. There are shadows on my floor
Some lonesome notes now fill the air… they come from my guitar
But they have no song to guide them… no tune to show the way
As I sit here pickin’ my guitar

But I know I wanna play something… Cause that’s where I are

Scottys planning the next skills day
As he rides the scenic side
The boys from Richmond are tagging along
I’m up front leading this ride (substitute ‘I’m’ for anyone one leading)
The sun and the wind and the rocks and the sea
The bikes give gives a satisfied sigh
It don’t get much better than this
As we ride the Sea to Sky
The destination now that don’t matter
That’s not what they care
The ride is what turns their cranks
The bikes and the friends they share
The road and the sky and the wind in the face
As the bikes lean through a curve
They ride with precession and they ride with pride
The O 56 is here.

The Trail On The Ridge
There’s a gap in the trees, beside the trail
On the sunny side of the ridge
The afternoon sun is warm on my face
And the view is the best there is
The valley below stretches deep and wide
Cloaked in a forest of green
And the river flows on down to the sea
Fed by the snow and the rain.
It’s a quiet spot beside the trail
And the breeze is fresh on my face
The sun is warm on the rocks and the ridge
There’s a coolness in the shade
There’s a scent in the air from the spruce and the firs
And from the cedars that still remain
Where the river flows on down to the sea
Fed by the snow and the rain.
There’s a trail on a ridge and a valley below
A beautiful place to know
And the river flows on down to the sea
Fed by the rain and the snow.
The sun still warms the trail on the ridge
Across the valley it’s slipping low
The valley is cast in twilight
Its night time now below
The river is dark in the shadow so deep
From the mountains where night began
And the river flows on down to the sea
Fed by the snow and the rain.
From the trail I watch the valley below
As it slips in to the night
The passage is peaceful and good for the soul
A never changing, ever changing sight
The melting ice from the mountains beyond
Runs down to the valley below
And the river flows on down to the sea
Fed by the rain and the snow.

Wish You Were Here G2
Wish you were here
But you’re so far away
I can’t, see the smile, on your face any more
Wish you were here
But you’re so far away
I can’t, see the smile on your face.
You’ve been gone now so long
I don’t know when you’ll return to me
You’ve been gone now so long
And now I just wait to see
The smile in your eyes
They shine so bright
When you smile with your eyes, to me, mmm
The smile on your face
It tells me everything I need to know
I wish you were here
You’ve been gone now so long
I don’t know when you’ll return to me
You’ve been gone now so long
And now I just wait to see
I wish you were here
I wish you were here so near
I could see your smile when you smile upon me
And hold you so close
And tell you everything
I wish you were here with me
You’ve been gone now so long
I don’t know when you’ll return to me
You’ve been gone now so long
And now I just wait to see

And that was where we all wanted to be, way back on the old farm.
We’d spend a hard week of toil working in the fields, as best we could
Loading up the wagons pulled by tractor wheels, it sure felt good
Herded cattle from the pastures and cleaned out the stables just like full grown men
Cause that’s where we all wanted to be, back on the farm again.
We mended fences in the rain and bailed hay in the sun, we sure worked hard
We slipped in the mud and kicked up the dust, in the old barn yard
We cut wood for the fire and hauled it to the shed and we’d do it all over again
Cause that’s where we all wanted to be, back on the farm again.
We climbed in the hay loft and climbed in the barn, and we stayed safe and sound
Rode to town in the back of the old pickup truck, that’s how everyone got around
And Grannies over by the old Dutch oven cooking up some home made bread
At the end of the summer when we had to go home
we wanted back on the farm instead.
Just kids helping out on the old farm, 60 years ago
We knew we had to work hard if we wanted to be there, it had to be so
We tried our best to work real hard so they’d be proud of us then
Cause that’s where we all wanted to be, back on the farm again.
Been thinking about the old farm, of 60 years ago
There’s a card game going on the old kitchen table
In the light from the oil lamp glow
Grannies over by the old Dutch oven and we’re all safe and warm
And that was where we all wanted to be, way back on the old farm.

that blow in from the ocean where the winds grow wild
Bring the storms and the rain and that feeling all over again
That your love will be gone and I don’t know why
Washed away by the rains that fall from the sky
November rains are blowin in again.

I know its hard on your sole when the rains wont stop,
And it tears at your heart in the endless dark
And you get that lonely feeling all over again
That you’re all alone with the wind and the dark
And the rain that is tearing hard so at your heart
But you know I’ll be at your side through November rains.

We roll on into Cache Creek for some gas and a coffee bre--ak.
Turn west again off 97 at the top of 99
The northern end of the Sea to Sky where the riding sure is fine
Like a cowboy but with just two wheels and an engine rumbling low
Through the Hat Creek Ranch and Marble Canyon Past Pavilion on we go---oo
Short Ch
We cross the mighty Fraser to the Lillooet far shore
The Duffy is ahead of us, and Coastal Mountain wall
The cowboy’s horse would snort right now, our engines rumble loud
We climb on past the steep rock face, Into the Alpine and the clou—ds
A steep drop into the Pemberton, its farm and pasture scene
The trail along the river winding tight through fields of green
Then climb up over that switch-back hill and down to the other side
Where the Rutherford is tame right now, But can often change it’s mind.
Short Ch
Through Whistler with it’s tourist types and past that big Green Lake
With charter planes expensive cars and fancy big estates
Down along the Checkamus where the kayaks bob around
The canyon and the Tantalus Range, And the top end of Howe Sound.
Squamish with its famous Chief and them comes Shannon Falls
We wind on through Britannia with the Sound beside us now
Up the hills and around the curves the highway shows the way
The scenery is takes your breath and we end in Horseshoe Bay.

Where the Arctic land stretches far and wide as far as the eye can see

To the mountains with their rocky peaks those high and snowy tops
And their valleys where time just seems to stop
Where the forest stands of mighty trees stretch far as the eye can see
That big old road sure is inviting me.
Where the prairies reach so far and wide all the way to the eastern side
And the sunsets fill the western evening sky
From rolling hills to flat ranch land its all so nice to see
That big old road sure is inviting me.

And its only after you give up that they finally give it back.
They have best dog friends and they play like pups, and others they don' like
They have a pack mentality, for them that just seems right
We make them part of our world and family and we treat them just like us
And then we clean up after them whenever they make a mess
We take them for walks and we pooper-scoop, we wouldn't do that for each other
They look at us with their big brown eyes and we melt like a puddle of butter
We buy them treats and fancy toys and we take them to the park
Then we turn around and get mad at them whenever they might bark
They're friends we couldn't live without, they're good for us you know
Some work hard and some not so much and others are just for show
Most are treated good you know, but some are treated bad
The lucky ones live a real dogs life, the rest are very sad.

Forty years together, I love you so
I can feel your warmth beside me as we walk in to the night
With passing years we’re closer now the path we took was right
The harder times are behind us now, the mist sings a silent song
We walk into the moonlight and quietly sing along.
You gave your life to me, I devoted my life to you
I never really showed it well it was the best that I could do
Now we stroll together in the night and the mist sings a silent song
We walk into the moonlight and quietly sing along.

Winter comes with its icy grip, the north wind blowing cold
The snow piled high around the trees bare branches looking old
The land beneath is in frozen sleep as if all life is gone
Then the morning sun starts to melt the snow and the circle carries on, carries on.
The land awakens from its icy sleep, new life has begun
Young flowers and the new spring leaves, bask in the soft warm sun
The days grow longer and warmer too, the cold north wind is gone
The world renews with the coming of spring and the circle carries on, carries on.
The world moves on in the summer sun, what was new matures so fast
The days are long in the summer sun but soon that will be past
The long warm evenings and the cool quiet nights were care-free and so fun
Give way to the end of summer, and the circle carries on, carries on.

That land upon her pretty face and bring a smile so wide.
She learned to crawl and learned to walk and skip and jump and run
Everything new and wonderful, learning is so fun
She colours on her papers and she colours on the walls
And like every little girl her age she sometimes trips and falls
Ch
She sees the moon in the evening sky and wants to see some more
She sees the snow on the mountain tops, what it is she's not too sure
She hears the birds and looks for them and watches them fly by
And wonders as they fly away so high into the sky
Our little girl is growing fast, learning so very much
A world of colour and of sound and many things to touch
She loves the world around her, like bugs that fly or crawl
A child's fascination with everything big and small
Ch
She loves to be with Daddy then she wants to be with Mom
Mommy holds and nurtures her and Daddy is so fun
And spend the afternoon with Granny, her yard a wonderful world
And when she wants to be with me she's Grandpa's little girl.

Blow hard, the old Squamish Wind....
It blows from the mountains when the high pressure builds and the air begins to flow
It funnels down the sides of that ancient fiord, past the islands as they go – and stands the
Waters of that old Howe Sound up into high and mighty waves
That crash upon the rocks and wash across the bows of boats sailing oh so brave
The waters of the Sound will be smooth as glass not a ripple or a wave will show
Then the wind starts up in mid morning sun and its strength begins to grow – and send the
Waters piling high and the waves running wild to the Salish Sea and so
The sailing boats run for shelter when the white caps roll and the Squamish wind start to to blow.
Then it blows from the water when the valleys heat up and the air begins to rise
And the waves roll back upon themselves and grow so fast and so high – and send the
Spray from the whitecaps high across the bows of the ships that are brave and dare
To ply the waters of the Strait and the waters of the Sound when the wind blows without a care

C → Am
You came toward me, reaching out, Thought you were lunging for my throat
Noticed those hairs growing from your chin, Kinda' like a billy goat
I tried to write a love song, I tried my very best
But the wax was running from your ears I just could not let that rest.
Your slippers are braced with Kevlar to support your substantial weight
I've seen hypos wallowing through the mud with a much more pleasing gait
I tried to write a love song, I tried my very best
But coming up with something nice to say really put me to the test.
Now no one needs to worry too much this song is not about them
I was playing around with silly words just trying to write a song when
I tried to write a love song, I tried my very best
It may be in very bad taste but all just meant in jest.

Then they make you print your own boarding pass
And they tell you this is better and oh so very fast
But your printers low on ink and it's running out fast
These days I really hate to fly

You have to go sideways in crab walking style

D

G
Our herd of doggies safely corralled while the winds howl through the trees
Ch #1
We'd shelter in that old line cabin - From the storms up in those hills
With beans for grub and strong black coffee - As the snow piles on the sills
Our trusty ponies bedded down - Till the storms have passed on by
Then herd them cattle on down to pasture beneath a western sky.
Ch #1
The cattle drives through dust and mud - Along those prairie trails
The herds of longhorns passing by - Pounding hooves and swinging tails
The cowboy and his pony - Driving them along
Keep 'em moving and keep 'em safe - To the sound of the cowboy's song.
Ch #1
And bumping down the old dirt road - In a beat up pickup truck
Headin' into town for supplies and to watch the buckaroo's luck
At the poker game in the old saloon - The hours pass on by
Then head on back out to the ranch 'neath a starry western sky.
Ch #1 Ch #2 Ch #1 Ch #1 (hum & falsetto)

We only need to look – and it is found
Come see those stars so clear and bright
Sparkling diamonds shining through the night
Like candles over head a beacon high
Till morning breaks and the sun can light the sky
The beauty in the world is all around
We only need to look – and it is found
Then dawn lights up the mountains tall
Commanding presents towering over all
Majestic trees to the timber line grow
And iced with a topping of clean white snow
The beauty in the world is all around
We only need to look – and it is found
Theres a world out there for all to see
With open eyes its there for you and me
From rolling plains and vistas wide
Across this land all the way to the ocean side.
Theres a world out there for all to see
With open eyes its there for you and me
From rolling plains and vistas wide
Across this land all the way to the ocean side.
Across this land all the way to the ocean side.
