                      My closest
                        encounter with a
                        bear, so far, this season…..

                      As I know, (I word
                        it that way
because I’m the only one who will ever read this), I put
                        out bird
seed every morning about 5:30. The flock of Jays are
                        always waiting
for it. Then, anywhere from 5:40 to 6am the crow will
                        come and look
in the front window to get my attention at which point I
                        get up from
my easy chair and go to the fridge to get her treat on
                        my way to the
back deck. This happened as expected one morning this
                        week. She came
about 5:45. I got up, grabbed her treat and headed out
                        the back door,
fully expecting to see her waiting on the fence rail.
                        She wasn’t
there and neither were any of the other birds. I figured
                        the raccoons
were around again and had scared the birds away. I
                        looked around for
them but instead of seeing a coon I say a nice big black
                        bear as
he/she came up the rock beside the house. It was just on
                        the other
side of the railing from me. It stopped in surprise and
                        we looked at
each other. It then proceeded on up and over and down
                        into the
neighbor's back yard. As soon as it was gone, the crow
                        dropped in as
                        did the Jays. Cool.
