From Nova Scotia Sus

The weeks sure go by quickly. We are back to snow country and cold. Spring always has a hard time coming here in Nova Scotia and we should always expect it. We started our seedlings and they are sprouting fast.

At night the plants are inside spread out on our kitchen counters and dining table. During the day they are out in our front entrance where they get lots of light and won't freeze if the sun is shining. We always are ahead of the weather so we have to baby our plants or they will not make it. Our greenhouse is still under construction and wide open to weather but next year it should be a different story.

My brother Warren and I spent a fun evening singing and playing guitars. Its so great to have him here. It brings back so many memories and songs we played years ago. My guitar playing is so weak but it comes back and I find I'm doing more harmony.

I've got him roped into a weekly thing and I believe he is staying for about 2 months.

From Doug

Our crows are back. We hadn’t seen them in many months and had assumed that they had found a better place to get handouts, or had joined the main flock, or had simply flocked off, pardon the dumb pun. However, one morning early this week we were surprised to see one looking in the front window at us. That is how they always got our attention, by looking in and making eye contact. So, I chopped up some leftover meat that was in the fridge and took it out to the back deck where the second crow was waiting. As well, I set up a bowl of water for them as they have always liked dipping whatever it is we give them.

That was about Monday and they have been coming each morning at about 7am. On some days they turn up again about noon and look in the window in hopes of being offered another free meal. The don’t even bother to scatter or fly away when I bring out their treat, they seem to understand my purpose in their world.

These two would have to be offspring of the original crow that had started coming around several years ago, the one we had named Beaky because of her deformed beak. Each year she had brought her mate and as each season wore on, her offspring. Then, she stopped coming and we assumed she had moved on to wherever old crows go when they have lived their lives. She must have given good instructions to her offspring because even though it has been months since any of them had come around, they seem so know what to do and to understand that we won’t harm them. Pretty cool when you think about it.

Sue’s sister Sherry went home on Tuesday. I can never thank her enough for coming out when she does, and as often as she does. My life gets so much easier when she is here, I can relax a bit, let my guard down a bit, and recharge a bit. She is coming back out in June, something to look forward to.
