The Squamidian Report – Sept. 16 / 17

Issue #799

Hi All,

Greg's condition update... Greg had been hospitalized last week due to heart problems. Greg's wife Carole sent this message out to several people regarding his situation. I'm passing it on to all of you to let you know what he's going through right now. Our best to both of them.

“We got a call today (Wednesday) that Greg was been sent over to Guelph hospital at 4 pm and they are doing the carotid arteries tomorrow. It's a 4 hour surgery then 2-3 hour recovery. He will stay a couple of days there then back to St Mary's for a few more days then home to rest for a week until he heals then back in for the open heart surgery.”

Seems to me that last week I went on a rant about the extreme heat and drought. Well, the  weather turned like the throwing of a switch. All of a sudden it is 'normal'. Cool nights, seasonal days and even some rain here and there. The state of emergency that has been in effect for most of the province all summer has now been lifted. Many of the forest fires are now under control. Most won't be extinguished until the rain and snow of winter can finish them off but at least they are no longer growing, or at least not threatening any built up areas. One of the fires spread so far that it travelled over 200 miles. Thats almost impossible to wrap one's head around. Interestingly, our long range winter forecast is calling for a cold wet one, just like last year. Who knows, time will tell.

I really don't have much to write about these days and there is no point in just writing for the sake of writing. So, again, this issue will be embarrassingly short. But get this, next week's issue is the 800th. Thats right. 800 of these things over the past 15 years. There's a good chance it has run it's course which in a way would be a bit of a relief, for me at least. Regardless, if anyone would be interested in contributing to the 800th, please do so. If for no other reason than that the readers would have something to read. Go ahead, give it a try. You just might like it.
