Hi All,

At times like this we tend to make polite yet irrelevant conversation. I suppose its a way of coping, of doing the best we can without addressing the things that are actually on our minds. I guess thats a good thing. So to that end I'm going to convert irrelevantly.

This past Monday, Kyra not only played in snow but was able, with a bit of help from Grandma, to make a small snowman. It was raining off and on at our place and that meant there was a good chance it was snowing at the top of the gondola, and it was. We left the dreary base in drizzle and climbed up through a cloud layer as we rode, the rain turning to snow as the unit we rode in ascended. At the top we found a winter wonderland. Kyra hasn't seen very much snow so far and when she does find it, she is beside herself with excitement. You can't get her past the first patch she encounters. So, she and grandma didn't get very far from the upper lodge. Meanwhile, I headed off down the trail we usually walk in hopes of sighting a grouse we have been watching thats been hanging out, hight in a big mountain hemlock. He's been making his grouse calling sound quite a bit which is why we were able to figure out where he is. Their call is hard to pin down but by listening from several location you can triangulate their position close enough to spot them. I had brought my spotting scope along but due to the weather, he had hunkered down and was quiet. I couldn't find him even though the snow would clear out every once in a while, before starting back up. When I got back to the lodge, Sue had managed to get Kyra inside to dry off and warm up. The kid would stay out in the snow until she turned blue from cold and still resist being dragged inside. We all enjoyed warm drinks a some pastries as we watched the snow paint the trees and cover the mountain sides. It was a good time.

Next morning, very early, Sue and Kyra dropped me off at the airport for my flight to KW. The rest you all pretty well know. The turnout for Mom's visitation was quite incredible. She had obviously left an impression on a lot of people. The turn out for her funeral was heartwarming. Yes a lot of people are going to miss her.

In the hours and days that followed, we enjoyed a lot of food, guitar playing and singing, just like she would have wanted.
