Hi All,

Recuperating from the surgery has been coming along just fine. My ‘insides’ are still a bit tender and seem to be somewhat confused. The staples came out Friday. That was ok, didn’t know what to expect. I guess it beats stitches. Staples come straight out with minimal pulling, you just grab them with a fencing pliers and give them a good yank. Stitches on the other hand must be drawn out. Notice the use of the word ‘drawn’, as in ‘to draw’, a slow, drawing action that would slide the stiff, stuck thread out through your tender sensitive flesh. I’ve only had stitches once in my life, that was 40 years ago and just a few in one finger. I can still remember having them out. Believe it or not, staples seem to be a much better way to go. I assume they are easier to put in too, staple guns are available almost anywhere and good construction staples can be gotten at any hardware store. Pop, pop, pop, and its done. The doctors says the soreness and swelling are normal and will go away on their own. OH, and even though I was stuck in bed for a couple of days, I was never cut off from the digital world. I had two laptop computers on the bed running as I lay there propped up on pillows. It’s the only way to do it these days.

‘The Wife’ has had it a bit rough the last few days. Because Ryan was in Banff and Lauren was working some inconvenient shift, we had baby Kyra from Sunday till Friday evening. So, ‘the wife’ was stuck taking care of both a winey, needy, spoiled brat, AND baby Kyra. Just kidding, she is not really a baby any more. At over 13 months she is a non-stop, going concern. In fact, I’ve come to realize that vampires really do exist. Only, they don’t suck your blood, they suck your energy. This little toddler must have swallowed an energizer battery because she just keeps on going and going. We are exhausted just trying to follow her around the house. And, she is now walking. That happened on Wednesday. She had been taking a few steps here and there but now she can walk all the way across the living room. She can walk down the hall. Perhaps ‘walk’ was not quite the right term, more like a drunken monkey staggering along but she sure can move fast. She was into everything before, now she is in to everything faster.

By Thursday not only could she walk, she could steer. In other words, she could choose where she wanted to go and actually get there rather than just flounder around and ending up where every chance and wobbly legs took her. By Friday she could stand up in the middle of the living room unaided, get steadied on her little legs, and then head off down the hall or into the kitchen or over to the dog or to a person. So many choices. I think its time to get a leash for her. There is no way we can keep up, we can’t even pretend to keep up. Her parents picked her up on Friday evening and her grand parents dropped from exhaustion.

THE ONTARION REPORT

Hello everyone!

I had an interesting morning on Wednesday blowing the snow with one hand! LOL! I used both hands but most of the brute force was from my left hand. Holding down the auger control with the right one was simple enough and thank goodness the blower has a reverse mode. It took me about twice as long as with two good hands but I managed to “Giter done” and cleared enough before the school kids came by!

If only those damned city plows would stop dumping a ton of slush in the bottom of the drive it wouldn’t be so much work to clear the drive. They seem to take pleasure in clearing the middle of the street and dumping the result about three feet from the curb. Then they leave for a couple of hours to return later only to make another pass leaving another ton or two in your nicely cleared ramp edge. This happened three times on Wednesday and each time the pile got wetter and wetter and consequently more and more difficult to remove. The blower handled it ok but as the snow got slushier the blower tossed it shorter and shorter distances. Since it was so wet, I decided just to point the chute toward the cleared roadway and it just turned to water as it splashed on the dark asphalt. By noon it was pretty much melted and the passing cars spread the remaining slush out so it dissipated rapidly. This kind of wet snow reminded me of the snow that Doug has told us they get out west, heavy and wet and drops straight down when they get it! I’m sure if this storm had dropped nice fluffy snow we’d have had a couple of feet of the stuff but since it was heavy and wet it packed itself into a dense layer that was not near that deep. Oh well, since March has come in like a lamb, I’m sure we can look forward to it going out like a lion! Looks like that darn groundhog lied to us again! If spring were just around the corner as he predicted we’d be having less and less snow rather than more and more! Hopefully by mid April we’ll be enjoying some much nicer weather and the blower can be put through it’s end of season service and stored away in the shed for another 7 or so months. I’m looking forward to a nice long hot summer this year. The Dr set an appointment for March 21 to do my left hand and that means by the end of May I should have two reasonably useful hands once again!  The right one is coming along well and I’m even typing pretty well with it. It gets tired and sore after a half hour of typing so I have to stop and rest between paragraphs but this is much better than one handed typing for sure. An inch or so either side of my wrist line is still sore and quite hard to the touch. I guess it’s still healing inside as it only takes a little pressure on that area to make me wince a tad! It is however improving every day and a long as I take it easy it should be in good shape within a few more weeks, I hope!

Guess that’s about all I can handle for this week but I would like to wish Vivyan a belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

That’s all for this week but I’ll look forward to talking to you all again next time in The Ontarion Report!

Bye for now … Greg
