Hi All,

Perhaps I should write a song called ‘Can’t think of anything to write’… that uses the concept of my ‘Can’t think of anything to play’ song. As happens so often, I sit here at my computer with the intention of writing this the Squamidian and I can’t come up with anything. Can’t think of anything to say? Hmmm…

Oh well, here’s something. You may remember that during the winter I had complained to the municipality about the parking on our street and they actually came out and posted one side of the street as ‘No Parking’. They sent out letters to everyone on the street informing them of the parking ban on one that and the reasons for it, those reasons being that parked vehicles were blocking the street and creating a safety issue. They were quite a bit more polite than I would have been, I’d have referred to the offending vehicles as being parked by brain dead morons but that’s just how I’d have done it. Anyway, the letter went on to say how this would be a winter time only parking ban that would take place every winter from here on. Several residents ignored the parking ban and were actually ticketed which is quite extraordinary because this town usually ignores everything. Anyway, the signs they had put up were temporary ones on temporary posts. The municipality took them away about a week ago and all the bone heads started to park on the street again but winter is over so I guess its ok to be a bone head.

This week new, permanent signs went up. They are marked indicating that the parking ban is from Nov 1 to March 31. I was talking to one of the people installing the signs on the existing light poles. She indicated that several residents have expressed their disapproval of such heavy handed behavior on the part of the town because they have sloped driveways and can’t possibly be expected to clear their own drives when it snows, or any other time for that matter. That’s a common mind-set in this town, why would you park on your driveway when it is more convenient to just abandon your car on the street. Like I said, bone-headed morons. Oh well. I asked how they were going to install a sign on the pole across from my place because it is totally over grown and surrounded by a pine tree. You can’t even get to the pole. This same property has several other scrub pines that encroach right onto the street, blocking the sight line as well as scratching any vehicle that comes too close. They said that home owner would be getting a letter from the municipality informing him that ALL of those trees must come down, they are his trees, but they are not on his property, they are on the street and are a hazard. I then asked if they had this kind of problem on any other street and they replied that yes, this parking problem has been occurring on a whole bunch of streets and it needs to be dealt with. Cool, maybe Squamish is finally catching up with the 20th century. Of course that would still put it a century behind but it is a start.

Ok, here’s something a little different, or at least has nothing to do with parking or bone heads. You know the old saying, “be careful what you wish for, because you just might get it”? Well, several of my friends have been asking when my NEXT cd will be coming out. My last one, Volume 4 that came out last December, has been a wild run-away hit with close to 3 dozen copies out there in the world. I’ve been telling them quite truthfully that it will be quite a while because I need to come up with material and I need to find the time and the be in the right mood and so on. They have also been egging me on, telling me to write more of the stuff I record. (Keep in mind most of my friends are old bikers and therefore they all have pretty poor hearing). Well, I did find myself in the necessary creative mood at the same time that the house was as quiet as it ever gets so, I came up with the first contender for the next cd which would be Volume 5 should it ever come to a successful conclusion somewhere off in the distant future. It can be listened to from the MP3 page of my web site, as well, the link below will take you right to the song. Its called ‘The Trail On The Ridge’ although I’m still not sure if I want to stay with that title or come up with something else. Hey, how about a contest to see who can come up with a better name? Winner gets bragging rights and a percentage of sales! (0 x any % is still 0)  Anyway, give it a listen. It will only cost you 3.5 minutes of your life that you can never get back. J

THE ONTARION REPORT

Hello everyone!

Well, the hands are getting better and better and after re-splitting the newest incision open a few days after having the stitches out I took better care for a few days more and it healed up enough to hold closed. Now it’s getting better each day and should be stronger in a few more days.

Speaking of incisions, Bailey our poodle was dribbling all over the place about 4 days ago and then when he was trying to pee, would stand in a position that indicated going #2 in stead. Well, we finally decided to take him to the Vet on Tuesday afternoon and when they did an x ray of his innards, the found that his bladder was filled with large crystal stones and his penis was also showing to be partially blocked with smaller ones, making it difficult for him to pee. The Vet said that this would give him the sensation of both needing to go #2 and #1 so it was a true strain on his system. She told us that if it blocked completely it could kill him before they could surgically unblock the system. So, she called University of Guelph Small Animal Clinic and they had us rush him over to Guelph right away at 6pm Tuesday. They kept him over night under observation until Wednesday morning when the surgeon called us to say they would be doing surgery to remove the stones that afternoon. The surgery took 4 hours and then there was another 24 hrs of care post op! We got a call Wednesday evening from the Dr at 9pm to say all went well and they had removed all of the stones successfully. They had to keep Bailey for another day to make sure he would recover alright. So we were able to pick him up Thursday evening at 6pm and bring him home. I’m writing this on Thursday and so far he is doing well. We have to keep the poor little guy from bothering with his incision while we’re all awake and he’ll have to wear a “cone” style collar at night to protect his sore tummy! After two weeks, we’ll have to take him back to Guelph to be inspected and have the stitches removed. With being diabetic he’s more susceptible to infection so we have to keep an eye on his incision spot! Hopefully he’ll heal up well and quickly so we can all get back to normal! He’s surprisingly chipper for what he’s been through the past couple of days. He’s able to walk about and hasn’t bothered with his incision at all tonight so we’re hoping he’ll leave it alone for two weeks that it takes to heal. It’s been quite an experience since he’s both diabetic and blind. The Vet told us that most people would just put their dog down if they were faced with this but to us, Bailey is too much a part of the family to give up on him now! We’ve had Vet bills every year that amounted to as much as 5 or $600.00 for the past 10 years so we figured what the hell, what’s another $600.00 to our Vet for an hours exam and tests and $2600.00 to the Veterinary College to save the little guys life once more! LOL! Sheesh! Oh well, when you love your pet/family member you gotta have a big heart as well as a fat wallet! Hahahaha……! We love him too much to do away with him after all these years so he’s been given another reprieve. Hopefully he’ll live for another few years and finally go gently in his sleep one night like we’d all like to do in the end!

That’s it for this week folks!

Thanks for tuning in and I’ll look forward to talking to you all again next week in The Ontarion Report!

Bye for now … Greg
