The Ontarion

Hi All,

This will be short and sweet because IÕm not even home right now. A group of motorcycle riders made up of chapter members from Vancouver Island and several of my chapter are doing a 4-day ride into the BC interior. We are using Kamloops as a base. Kamloops also has a CMC chapter so that makes it even better because we have them as our ÔhostsÕ while we are in the area.

We hooked up with the Island riders as they came off the ferry abd away we went. The ride to Kamloops included several rest stops along the way and was quite fun. It helps the the sun is actually shinning. Anyway, short and sweet. I'll fill you in next time.

THE ONTARION REPORT

Hello Everyone

I just heard from Doug about VivyanÕs mishap!

Carole and I would like to extend our best wishes for a speedy recovery to you Vivyan! You have indeed got lots of love and prayers coming your way from your immediate and extended family! IÕm sure youÕll be up and around in short order if you behave while recovering!

WeÕll, I finally got the motorcycle out for a couple of hours on the weekend. Carole and I have an MGB sports car that weÕve owned since 1989. Over the years IÕve totally rebuilt it and itÕs a lot of fun to cruise around in on a beautiful summer or fall day. We havenÕt had it on the road since 2009 but decided to make a point of doing so this summer. Last Friday with the help of my cousin I managed to move it enough away from the one wall of the garage so I could get at the left front tire (which was flat) to place a pump on it to fill it with air. Once that was done I tried to start it but found the battery was dead. Luckily I discovered this mid afternoon so the stores were not yet closed for the holiday weekend. I took the old battery over to Lawrence Ave to ÒBattery WholesaleÓ and had them test it to make sure it was a dud! It was a dud and the guy there offered to sell me a brand new one that they had been using for a tester in the shop. He sold it to me for half price and included the tax. For $39.99 it was a steal! I took it home and put it in the MG and VvvrrrroooooooomÉ. Away it went! Then I washed the MG and sheÕs now gleaming and ready for the summer of cruising once again!

While I was working on the MG, I decided to try to start the Motorcycle. I had it on a trickle charger all winter and it started about a month ago when I tried it! However, this time it would do nothing but make a clicking sound when I pushed the start button. SO, back I went to Lawrence Ave but the battery place was closed. I looked at the clock and it was 10 after 5 so I figured IÕd have to wait until after the weekend to get a battery. The next day I took a chance and phoned Zdeno Cycle out on Victoria St N and as luck would have it, they were open on the Saturday. I yanked the battery out of the bike and headed to ZdenoÕs. They happened to have the exact battery for my bike and I waited for half an hour so they could give it a quick charge. I told the counter man that my dead battery was only 3 years old and that I had taken proper care of it over the winters. He said heÕd knock $5.00 off the replacement but that was the best he could do. I said, Ò$5.00 is better than nothing and thanked him! Once I had the battery in hand, I zipped home in the MG and stuck the new battery in the motorcycle. Once again VvvvvrrrroooooommÉÉ away went the Kawasaki and I had myself another choice of transportation for the summer! Looks like itÕll be a fun summer as far as driving goes and IÕm really looking forward to it. Carole doesnÕt ride on the bike with me but she loves the MGB both riding in it and driving it so sheÕll have a fun summer driving too! She had always liked the MGB style car and when we finally bought this one back in Õ89 we said weÕd never get rid of it and so far weÕve managed to keep it running well and looking great too! ItÕs one of the most fun cars IÕve ever had to drive and IÕm glad that we both love this little car!

Well, thatÕs about it for this week!

Thanks for tuning in and IÕll look forward to talking to you all again next week in ÒThe Ontarion ReportÓ!

Bye for nowÉ Greg
