Hi All,

I can’t believe its December again. We just finished having one a year ago. I’ve always said that time is like a freight train going down hill without brakes. It keeps going faster and faster, out of control and heading for who knows where. Actually, there are some theoretical physicists who think time is an illusion and that is doesn’t really exist at all. According to their theories, the reason things seem to age and / or deteriorate is due to the chaos factor introduced as the big bang event happened. It would not violate any laws of physics at all if a piece of glass were to un-break, or something were to ‘get younger’, but it does not happen because the universe tends to move toward chaos, not away from it. Never the less, December is here again, we didn’t go the other way and start a new October all over, or July, or whatever.

Interestingly, have you ever noticed that no matter what the calendar tells you, or what your watch tells you, it is always NOW. Its never some other ‘time’, its always now. Makes you wonder if the future or past are real. Not according to the theory that time does not exist. Think about it, if the past is real, where is it? You can’t just say “the past is in the past” because that makes no sense at all. It can’t be in itself, it has to be somewhere if it actually exists. If it no longer exists because it is now past, then it does not exist so therefore there is no past. The future works the same way, it has to be somewhere to be real, but it is nowhere, and therefore its debatable as to whether or not it to is real. So, there is only ‘now’ and that freight train gaining speed as it goes down hill without brakes is just an illusion. Or is it? Now you know why I can’t sleep at night.

My chapter of the motorcycle club I am in held an end-of-season brunch last Sunday. It was simply a way of acknowledging the end of the riding season and encouraging the continuation of the social aspect of the club. There was a pretty good turnout, it helped that most of us brought a spouse or a friend. Several members even rode their bikes. We were having a couple of cool but sunny days so anyone living fairly close to the North Vancouver location could certainly do so without getting overly cold. It is never very nice to have the riding season come to an end but it tends to when the temperature drops and the rain drops. This time of year the west coast gets hammered by wave after wave of very wet Pacific storms as they crash one after the other into the continent. I guess you could say that the ‘now’ we are having is quite different from the ‘now’ we enjoyed during riding season.

Currently we are averaging about 2 inches of rain per day, every day. The rivers are swollen and it’s a bit on the damp side out there. Even the dog prefers to stay inside, but given the opportunity, she does not turn down any offers to go for a walk. We all end up getting soaked but she doesn’t seem to mind once she is out in it. Something she loves though is the towel-down when we get back into the house. Its almost like she likes to get wet just so she can be toweled off. Most of the dogs we had in the past (a different ‘now’ from this current ‘now’) hated getting wet and hated being toweled off. I think they thought both were a waist of time and an insult.

THE ONTARION REPORT

Hello everyone!

With the onset of the Christmas season fast approaching (oops! I mean Here Already)I guess you’re all busy decorating the house and scurrying around town shopping for gifts for your loved ones that really mean something this time around! When you’ve been experiencing Christmas for over 60 years as I have it’s difficult indeed to think of something worthwhile to give a loved one. That’s why I am so grateful to Carole who is open eared all year long and picks up on things that each of us needs or at least are attracted to all through the year. She either keeps a running list of such items or buys them at the time she realizes someone mentions a like for such items and come Christmas, she’s got a really good handle on what to buy the people on her list. I guess I should take a lesson from her method and start doing the same for the people on my list! Although, my list of people isn’t very long being it’s comprised of only two names if you don’t count the dog! LOL!

Actually I’m luck when it comes to ideas since a written list usually appears on the office desk about 6 weeks before Christmas and all I have to do is pick from the list and find a few days or evenings that I can get out on my own to do some buying. When it comes to deciding what to get the other person on my list, that’s easy too since Carole and I both think alike when it comes to buying for our son at this time of year. He’s usually easy to buy for since he’s always in need of something that both Carole and I take note of through the year. So you see, my Christmas Shopping isn’t all that difficult to accomplish and the secret is to keep your list of “people to buy for” and what to get them “SHORT”. I also find that if you only buy what you know they’ve mentioned they need or want and don’t try to get fancy with surprises you think they might like, you can’t go wrong! I guess that since we don’t have a large family like the Brubacher clan to think of at this time of year things are less complicated!  It won’t be long and I’ll have all my shopping finished well before Christmas and as long as I tick off my list as I buy along the way, I won’t be purchasing any “doubles”! Hahaha…. No chance of that anyway!

SO, good luck to all of you with your Christmas Shopping this year and don’t forget to do it early!

As I sit here at the computer I can see the light and flakey snow drifting past the window and it puts me in the mood for Christmas! I only hope the snow stays light and flakey for the rest of the winter season!

That’s it for this week folks!

Thanks for tuning in and I’ll look forward to talking to you all again next week in The Ontarion Report!

Bye for now … Greg
