Hi All,

Here it is late Friday evening already and I have not had a chance to come up with anything for my column. I do have an excuse although it is a rather weak one. You see, we had endured a long stretch of crappy weather with only a few nice days scattered around throughout. Well, the sun finally came out and the temperature climbed a bit, and my friend who lives in the Kootenay’s and I had agreed that if we got a good stretch of good weather that we would slip in one more good bike ride before the season comes grinding to a halt. So on Wednesday morning I saddled up here and he saddled up there and we met in the middle, well, just past the middle from my perspective. We met up in Osoyoos, jumped across the border and headed south. Got home 3 days later and 1,500 kilometers later, tired and happy. Saw some incredible scenery along the Columbia River in Washington State, and more incredible scenery as we rode through the Cascades and over onto the Olympic Peninsula. But that’s all I’m going to say for now because I don’t have time to do a write-up for this week. I will have one ready, along with some pictures for next week.

The dog missed me while I was away. She tried to take my spot in bed but that didn’t go over too well. The wife missed me as well but I assume she stayed on her own side of said bed. My son borrowed my truck and the lawn has greened up a bit more. I dislike border-crossing guards and they seem to dislike me. I’ve been named first officer of the Vancouver chapter of CMC (Canadian Motorcycle Cruisers) and now have to figure out how to rejuvenate the chapter. And that is where I am at right now. You now know as much about me as I do.

THE ONTARION REPORT

Hello everyone!

So far we’re having a beautiful fall and it’s only going to get better from what our local weatherman tells us. Maybe a little sprinkle on the weekend but then the next four days will be pure sunshine with cool temps. I can dig that for sure. Time to get the motorcycle out for a countryside cruise to see the colours of the leaves. Should be worth the effort and of course I’ll just have to suit up with the appropriate attire for the ride. I haven’t ridden my motorcycle more than half a dozen times all summer. Been busy with other things and what a shame since we had a near perfect summer for cruising on two wheels. Oh well, life is full of trade offs and it just so happened that there were other priorities that demanded my time. I’ll be sure to get out on the bike next year no doubt. It makes me jealous beyond belief when I read of all the escapades that Doug and Sue have enjoyed on their “Big Blue” this summer. The only plus seems to be that my bike is still in like new condition and theirs is almost ready to be traded in once again before it gets too many km on it to make it worth a sensible amount on the next dealer visit! LOL! Just kidding of course, “Big Blue” has plenty of equity left in him I’m sure! Maybe the dynamic duo will trade “Big Blue” on an upgrade to a Japanese built long trip cruiser next time and it’ll last for 20 years instead of having to be traded in every three years or so! LOL! Maybe a Kawasaki Doug?  Just kidding…………. You know I needed something to write about this week don’t you! LOL! You just happen to be the fall guy! Feel free to pick on me any time you need fuel for your fire!

Lets change the subject for a few minutes. Today marked the passing of one of Hollywood’s most famous leading men and it’s sad to see that this means the end of an era. The era of BIG STARS and the glitz and glamour that was Hollywood back in the 40’s 50’s and 60’s with such names as Errol Flynn, Gregory Peck, Rock Hudson, Marilyn Monroe, Betty Grabel, Clark Gable, Kirk Douglas and of course the subject of this commentary, Tony Curtis! The world lost one of the last big stars of Hollywood when Tony Curtis died today of a heart attack at the age of 85. That is not to say that we don’t have big stars in Hollywood today but they are young and not from what we call “The Golden Age of Hollywood”. Today’s “Stars” are much more accessible and therefore do not carry the err of mystery that Tony’s list of fellow “Movie” stars did for their adoring fans. I’m sure that he will be missed by many even though he’s been out of the lime light for a long time. He was still a very recognizable personality and also quite a noted artist in his own right. He was a very accomplished painter and has produced quite an inventory of works of art for the world to enjoy. Most stars of his era were pretty much forgotten once they stopped making movies and passed on. Tony will live on in his paintings and I’m sure the value of these works has just tripled with his demise. I hope they give him a royal send off Hollywood Style since he’s one of the last great movie actors to star in true “Hollywood Production” movies! Good bye Tony, you’ve made your last encore! RIP!

That’s it for this week folks!

Thanks for tuning in and I look forward to talking to you all again next week in The Ontarion Report!

Bye for now… GREG.

PS: Something To Think About>

Clean, efficient coal fired power generating plants vs extremely expensive dangerous nuclear powered facilities. Now that they’ve disproven “Global Warming”, which would you rather have and why?

This is, given that wind and solar power systems can only produce approximately 20% of what we need to run this country!

Give this some thought and let me know what you think!
